Willie Hazel Betche was born on November 6, 1910 in Lamar County, Texas. She went on to a more serene place from her home the evening of November 13, 2011, after living a long, active life of 101 years. She was the oldest of six children of William and Della Strutton. She married Harry Betche on August 14, 1927.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gober, Andy and Jack; sisters, Crystal and Nancy; husband, Harry; and baby son, Clifton; daughter-in-law, Betty Sue Betche; and son-in-law Roger Hulett.
Hazel is survived by her son Charles Betche; granddaughter, Mary Lena Burrows and husband, Geary Don; great-grandchildren Chad Burrows and wife Keri, Christie Swann and husband Andy, and great-great-grandchildren, Austin, Maggie and Addison.
Hazel is also survived by her daughter Rilma Hulett; grandsons, Ted, Terry and wife Tina, and Greg Hulett; great-grandchildren, Richard, Tera, Aubrey, Michaela, Olivia, Taylor; and great-great-granddaughter, Paisley; and her devoted caregiver, Patty Burroughs.
Hazel worked faithfully beside Harry on the farm. She loved trees and flowers, with which she was always surrounded. She was a multi-talented lady that loved to sew, quilt, paint, make ceramics and keep a beautiful yard. She was well known for her love of animals and Christmas lights.
Hazel was an energetic member and leader of the Neighborly Home Demonstration Club for over fifty years. She and Harry were very active members of the Washita County Farm Bureau and served on the Board for many years. They especially enjoyed their many activities and friends in the Lake Valley community.
