William A. Welch Jr., 73, of Cordell, Oklahoma passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 7th, 2019 in the V A Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from complications with renal failure and lung cancer. He was born on January 11th, 1946 to William A. Sr. and Nettie Pearl (Pulley) Welch in Byars, Oklahoma.
William attended high school in Canute. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army, he served as Sergeant and marksman during the Vietnam War, and he was awarded the Purple Heart. William married the love of his life, Shirley White on April 27, 1971 in Kaufman Texas. He enjoyed a long career working for H & P in the Oil and Gas Industry. He loved working on drilling rigs and was known to many as "Worm." When he wasn't working, William loved to fish, tinker, piddle, do mechanic work and aggravate his wife. In the 1970's he was well known at the stock car races in Elk Cit, where he usually came in first place.
William was loved by all who knew him, and will be remembered as an exceptionally hard worker who was kind hearted and always willing to go out of his way to help someone in need. He had an incredible sense of humor and rarely failed to make everyone around him laugh. He was a man other men aspired to be like, the type of husband other women wished they had, and a father who would do anything for his children and grandchildren. William had enough friends to fill a whole page as he made friends everywhere he went. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, particularly Dale and Ollie Creco.
