Warren Phillips,

Warren Leroy Phillips Jr., Mountain View, peacefully passed away at home on Christmas Eve with his family by his side following a lengthy illness.
Warren was born June 10, 1945, in Clinton, OK, to Ruby (Roark) Phillips. He grew up in Mountain View, OK, and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1963. He then attended Murray State College in Tishomingo, OK, on football and track scholarships. He was on the Dean's and President's Honor Rolls each semester, and was also a Major in Air Force ROTC. While attending Murray State, Warren met Pama Lynn Summers. They married on September 3, 1967, and were wed for 48 years. From this union, three children and five granddaughters were born.
He continued his schooling at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK, on a track scholarship, where he graduated in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in education. The beginning of his coaching and teaching career led him to Antlers, OK; Buffalo, OK; and Wheeler, TX. Warren and Pama returned to Mountain View in 1972. He was a CLEET certified officer who served with the Mountain View Police Department. He also operated Warren's Mobil, Texaco, and Fina Service Stations in town. He later returned to coaching and teaching, earning a master's degree in counseling from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK, in 1987. He had an impactful career at Boone-Apache High School for 23 years. His subjects included psychology, government, and all history courses. In addition, Warren coached football, basketball, and track. He was awarded The Lawton Constitution 1991 All-Area 3A-2A Girls Basketball Coach of the Year. The Apache Masonic Lodge named Warren their Teacher of Today for the 1992-1993 school year. He was known by his students as "The King". He touched the lives of countless students and families.
Warren was a passionate motorcycle rider and took numerous trips with friends and family. He was able to ride through Canada, Mexico, and to every U.S. state but Hawaii. His adventures even included a motorcycle tour of a 400-mile unpaved section of the Alaskan Highway. Warren was a self-taught gunsmith and participated in competitive target shooting in several states. He earned the title of Oklahoma State Champion in pistol shooting in 1981. He was an avid fisherman and the self-proclaimed "Crappie Master of the World". He was a member of "The Coffee Cult" in Mountain View.
Warren was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Phillips, and brother, Ronnie Phillips.
Warren accepted Christ at the age of 9. He is survived by his wife, Pama, of the home; son Warren Phillips III, wife Kathy and daughters Sydni and Zoey, of Stillwater, OK; daughter Tracy Phillips Cothran, husband Volney and daughters Kaitlyn and Ari, Edmond, OK; daughter Taylor Phillips Woodard, husband Trent and daughter Libby, Oklahoma City, OK.
The family will honor Warren's wishes of not holding a formal memorial service. Instead, his family will place his ashes with his late brother's at a favorite fishing hole and in the yard of "Chuck". A celebration of life for the community will be planned for a later date.
