Virginia Smith

October 27, 1924 — May 11, 2012

Virginia Marie Smith, 87, long time Hobart resident, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 in Hobart. She was born October 27, 1924, on a dairy farm in Seward, Kansas to George Albert and Sadie (Moore) Strobel. She attended a one-room schoolhouse from the first through the eighth grades a mile south of her home. Virginia graduated from Radium High School at the age of sixteen. She went to St. John, Kansas after graduating and worked at the ASCS office in the courthouse. Virginia married Jerome Michael Smith on August 7, 1943 and he preceded her in death on August 19, 2002. She worked at the General Electric Company in New York City during World War II. In August, 1945, she returned to Great Bend, Kansas and began her family. She gave birth to seven children: Janet, Mike, Pat, Randy, Susie, Tommy and Doug. In 1959, Virginia and Jerome moved to Hobart, OK. They were members of the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. She owned and operated a day care in Hobart for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerome, four sons: Tommy, Randy, Pat, and Mike and one grandson, Josh and three brothers, Richard, Roy and Ralph Strobel.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Smith and Susie Smith, both of Hobart
and one son, Doug Smith of Fort Cobb.

Officiating: Father Jude Shayo, A.J.

Burial will follow in the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home of Hobart.
