Virgil K. Wilmeth

September 21, 1921 — November 2, 2016

Virgil K. Wilmeth 9/21/1921-- 11/2/2016 Virgil K. Wilmeth passed away at home in his sleep on November 2, 2016. He was born on September 21, 1921 in Rocky, Oklahoma to Levi and Mary Wilmeth. He had three brothers, Dallas, Keith, and Charles Wayne Wilmeth. He attended school at Star Elementary, Mountain View, Tuttle, (where he provided care for his Grandma Snow) then he returned to finish high school in Mountain View, Oklahoma where he claimed that he graduated valedictorian of his class, then laughed as he told us there were only two other classmates. He became interested in math and science as a teenager and found sheet metal work with Boeing in Kansas. During World War II, he went into the Army Air Corps, as the U.S. Air Force was then called, working as a radio instructor. He attended Southwestern State Teachers' College graduating with a degree in Secondary Education, Physics, and Math. During that time, he worked at the college teaching physics labs. While he was there in Weatherford, he met Eva Nell Francis who was also from an Oklahoma farm background, they fell in love and were joined in marriage May 23, 1947. They celebrated their 69th anniversary in May, 2016. They made their home in Tuttle, where Virgil taught 16 years. Virgil continued his education in the summer, receiving a Master's Degree in Physics as he continued during the year to teach at Tuttle High School. Virgil and Eva Nell have been faithful members of the Church of Christ throughout the years in Tuttle, Oklahoma; Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Cordell, Oklahoma. He preached twice on Sundays at the Pocasset church of Christ from 1959 until the family moved to Cheyenne Wyoming in1965. After the family moved to Cheyenne, he taught 19 years more until retiring in 1984. His teaching career spanned a total of 35 years. The couple moved to Cordell Oklahoma in 1998. Some of Virgil's hobbies included hunting, fishing, and mountain hiking. He stayed active by volunteering in nursing homes, delivering meals at the Senior Citizen's Center and conducting Bible studies at the Washita County Jail and by correspondence through World Bible School. He loved to attend the Tuttle high school alumni banquet. He was one of the oldest teachers at the event. He enjoyed reminiscing with students about classes, telling stories about the funny things that happened when he sponsored senior trips, class plays, and senior class parties. Virgil is survived by his loving wife, Eva Nell Wilmeth. They were the loving parents of five children: Charles Wayne Wilmeth with his wife, Jeen; Peggy Wilmeth Carr; Connie Wilmeth; Helen Wilmeth, and Sandy Wilmeth Ross, with her husband, Mark. Virgil and Eva Nell have ten lovely grandchildren: Hannah Wilmeth Nokes and her family; Julia Wilmeth; Gypsy Wilmeth; Liz Carr Ganshirt and her family; David Scott, IV; Teruwah Scott Row, and her family; Jacob Wilmeth Ross and his family; Levi Aaron Ross and his family; Andrew Christopher Ross; and Joel Mark Ross, serving in the U.S. Air Force in Turkey.
