Virgil Wayne Morris

Virgil Wayne Morris, 88 passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2016, in his home. He was born March 2, 1928, to Wayne and Pearl (Ellis) Morris on the farm south of Gotebo on Highway 54. Virgil was reared on Rainy Mountain Creek and recalled seeing the Rainy Mountain Indian School. He graduated Gotebo High School in 1946. Virgil served in the US Army in Korea, returning to Kiowa County and marrying Barbara Boyter in 1949. He farmed then began a 27 year career as a Post Master in Gotebo then going to Pauls Valley, retiring in 1986. Virgil was a Mason, Boy Scout Troop Leader and served on the BSA board that established Simpson Creek BS Camp near Sulphur. He was active in the local Samaritans charity in Pauls Valley. Virgil also taught adults how to read.

He is survived by 2 sons; Rick Morris and wife Angie, Arlington, TX
Neal Morris and wife Julie, Norman, OK
1 granddaughter; Marla Morris, Norman, OK
1 grandson; Jeff Morris, Norman, OK


He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Francis Jantz, one son Mark,
and his wife Barbara of 64 years.


Graveside Services: 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, 2016
Gotebo Cemetery, Gotebo, Oklahoma
Officiating: Winston Barton
Burial will follow, under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart.
