Velma Jones, 69, Fort Cobb Lake, was born September 29, 1945, to Coowee Rufus and Lydia Belle (Cornelius) Hendricks in Gracemont. She passed from this life on Friday, May 22, 2015, in Oklahoma City.
Velma was born at home in Gracemont and attended school until moving to Anadarko at the age of nine. She graduated from Anadarko High School with the Class of 1963. Velma and Jerry Jones were married on December 31, 1962. She worked for Lacey-Pioneer Abstract Company and Hinshaw Insurance Agency. Velma later worked for Caddo County as deputy county clerk. She and Jerry owned and operated their own laundromat business for a few years before retiring and moving to Fort Cobb Lake.
Velma loved to cook and enjoyed making quilts. She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Preceding her in death was her father, Coowee Hendricks.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Jones, of the home; two children, Rita Dalene Jones-McCool and her husband, Victor of Lawton and Terry Jones and his wife, Sandy of Anadarko; mother Lydia Hendricks Bybee of Newcastle; two brothers, Alvin Hendricks and his wife, Josie of Newcastle and Craig Hendricks and his wife, Marilyn Beth of Newcastle; three sisters, Donna Sue Garrett and her husband, Eddie, Marilyn Nolan and her husband, Rick and Carol Upton and her husband, Mike, all of Blanchard; four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at the Bethel Baptist Church and burial to follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at
