Troy Donald Fite

Troy Donald Fite, 91, passed away Tuesday, September 4th, 2018, at his home in Cordell, Oklahoma.
Born June 10, 1927, near Rocky, Oklahoma, he was the son of Leonard D. and Artive Page Fite. He was baptized into the Church of the First Born, near Rocky in 1942, where he remained a member throughout his lifetime. In 1945, he graduated from Rocky High School. Later that same year, on November 16, he married Mary Jo Holman.
Troy farmed for 45 years around Rocky, Cordell, Sentinel and Lake Valley. He was also a self-taught carpenter in his spare time, building the house on their farm with the help of only a bricklayer. He referred to himself as a jack of all trades, master of none. In reality, he was a quick study and fearless about learning a new skill; he dove right in and worked until he mastered whatever he put his hand to. After retiring from farming and moving to Cordell, he went on to work at Homeland Grocery in Clinton for a number of years.
Troy was a man of integrity, of conviction, a hard worker with impeccable character, always
busy at maintaining a well-kept home and yard, or organizing his workshop with tools collected over the years. He believed any job worth doing was worth doing right. And he was the rare man who could multitask, which was helpful because he enjoyed conversation, a lot. Even while working, he could "talk your ear off". Troy loved his church, his friends, his neighbors, and family. Most of all, through it all, he loved Mary Jo.
She preceded him in death in 2003. Also preceding him in death were granddaughter Sherry Jo Fite and grandson Patrick Byrd; brothers Glen & wife Jean, Claude & wife Weecie, Joe & wife Doris; brothers-in-law Carroll Holman, Dave Shaffer, Bill Deutchendorf, and Jim Cron; sisters-in-law Ruth Holman and Glenda Raleigh & husband Matt. Troy grieved these losses, yet still loved life.
Left to mourn his death are son Roger Fite & wife Michelle of Edmond, OK; daughters Wathena Spencer & husband Charlie of Yukon, OK, and Jennifer Fite of Wichita Falls, TX; grandchildren Troy Fite & wife Jacie of Edmond, OK, Lance Fite & wife Rachel of Alamo, CA, Greg Sutton of Elk City, OK, Sterling Sutton of Honolulu, HI, Gentry Sutton & wife Brooke of Bartlesville, OK, Treva Jones & husband Kevin of Fort Sill, SC, and Houston Byrd of Wichita Falls, TX; 19 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He is also survived by sisters Eda Lou Deutchendorf of Foss, OK, Patsy Sullins & husband of Clinton, OK, and Lily May Cron of Kingman, KS; sisters-in-law Twilla Peace and Sally Shaffer of Cordell, OK, Colleen Harker of Erick, OK, Jan Fite of Bethany, OK; brother-in-law Lee Roy Peace of Cordell, OK; and a multitude of nieces, nephews and friends.
