Tommy William Hancock

March 9, 1933 — January 6, 2019

Tommy William Hancock, 85, of Gracemont, Oklahoma passed away on January 6, 2019 on the same hill on which he was born March 9, 1933. He was the son of Audrey and Edna (Tommey) Hancock. He married JoAnn McCloskey on December 1, 1956. Together they had one son, Tony.


He was a 1960 college graduate of Oklahoma State University. While attending OSU in the late 1950s he was a member of the rodeo team and was an outstanding calf roper. He served in the Army for 2 years and was stationed at Fort Sill. He was a farmer/rancher as well as an elementary school teacher and taught 6th grade, Shop and was an elementary/junior high girls basketball coach. He finished his 22 year teaching career in Gracemont as an elementary principal. He enjoyed watching his son Tony play baseball and basketball and was an avid fan of his grandchildren's sporting events.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Hancock, of 62 years. This family was blessed with one son, Tony William Hancock and wife Kim of Anadarko, Oklahoma. The family continued to grow with 3 grandchildren. Tyler William Hancock and wife Natalie of Edwardsville, Illinois, Taylor Audrey Hancock of Washington, Oklahoma and Hunter Kate Fink and husband Jordan of Cypress, Texas. The biggest blessings were the Great grandchildren, Ava Kate Hancock and Tucker William Hancock. Tommy is also survived by his Brother-in-law, Guy Lynn Brower of Gracemont, Oklahoma as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey and Edna Hancock and sister, Roberta Brower.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, Gracemont, Oklahoma with Interment at Gracemont Cemetery, Gracemont, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in Gracemont or Anadarko.
