Thomas (Jimmie) Medlin, 84, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 13, 2011, at Elkview General Hospital. He was born on March 20, 1927, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Franklin Norwood and Lorena (Kyle) Medlin. He grew up in Nashville and joined the Navy when he was seventeen. He served his country by helping clean up Pearl Harbor Bay after the bombing.
He then returned home to Nashville to attend high school where he met and later married the love of his life, Eleanor Porter, on June 10, 1949. The next day he and Eleanor moved to Texas where they lived for 54 years. He worked all over the United States as an industrial insulator. In 2003 he and Eleanor moved to Hobart. He was a resident for a brief time in the Hobart Living Center before his death.
Thomas was a member, greeter, and usher at First Baptist Church, Hobart. He loved watching sports, playing golf, but his greatest joy was being with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, of the home; daughter, Debra Boyd and husband Stephen of Hobart; son, Rick Medlin and wife Lisa of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren, Kim Goss and husband, Scott of Lone Wolf; Brad Boyd of Justin, Texas; Amy Horner and husband Ron of Parker, Colorado; Austin Medlin and Ashlyn Medlin of San Antonio, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Taylan and Layne Goss of Lone Wolf, Colton and McKenzie Boyd, of Justin, Texas; Hailey, Hannah, and Addison Horner of Parker, Colorado; four sisters, Eleanor Thompson of Nashville, Tennessee; Fannie Tignor of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee; Barbara Bishop of Nashville, Tennessee; Patricia Medlin of Nashville, Tennessee; two brothers, Everett Medlin of Donaldson, Tennessee; and Ernest Medlin of Nashville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bobby and Franklin and five sisters: Mary, Sarah, Naomi, Carolyn, and Dorothy.
Family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday at Ray and Martha's Chapel, Hobart. Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2011, at First Baptist Church, Hobart, Oklahoma, with burial to follow in the Hobart Rose Cemetery.
