Shirley Joan (Igo) Hulin
Shirley Joan Igo was born July 20, 1930, in Cordell, OK, to Mason and Osie (Slatten) Igo. She passed away Nov. 29, 2018, at her home in Hobart at the age of 88.
She attended country schools as a child and graduated from Cordell in 1947. Later in life, she pursued a teaching degree at Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Master's degree in Education.
Joan married Mack Hulin July 25, 1948, in Cordell, OK. They were married 54 years before Mack passed away in 2002. They lived in Cordell before moving to Sentinel. They had three children, Rhonda, Pam and Monte. Joan was an elementary teacher and worked in the migrant program at Sentinel for 20 years before her retirement. She was chosen as the Sentinel Teacher of the Year during her years of teaching. In 1986, Joan received a national award as Master Teacher in Migrant Education. She enjoyed bowling, Sudoku, criptiquotes, playing cards with everybody, word search with Monte and dabbling in arts and crafts.
Joan is survived by her children, Rhonda Thomas of Bethany; Pam Sullivan, Sentinel; and Monte Hulin of Hobart; grandson, Derik Sullivan and wife, Carla, of Blanchard; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Aubrey Manning, Blanchard; sister, Regina Jones, Cordell; nephew, Brad Jones, Cordell and niece, Guynell Baird of Cordell; sister-in-law, Marie Black of Fairview and brother-in-law, Coy Hulin of Fairview and her best friend, Monna Corbin of Sentinel; and many more family and friends too many to list.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Osie Igo; husband, Mack Hulin; sister, Geraldine Baird; brother-in-law, Archie Baird; son-in-law, Jay Thomas; great-grandson, Boz Mac Sullivan.
Joan's love and devotion to family and friends and her quick wit and sense of humor made everyone she came into contact with know what a special and incredible person she was. Her smile lit up the room and her touch gave comfort and joy to all that knew her. Loving wife and mother; devoted Christian and dedicated educator-her presence will be missed, but her spirit will live on in our hearts.
