Shawn Ladell King

May 31, 1966 — May 17, 2021

On May 17, 2021 in Enid, Oklahoma Shawn LaDell King, 54 said his final goodbyes to this life with a last gesture of God's promise with his arm raised to the heavens. Surrounded by his pastor, mother and friend, we can say that Shawn was deeply loved and cared for in his final moments. Shawn was born on May 31, 1966 in Mangum, OK to his parents Allen and Carolyn King (Hokett). Being born the second in line but not too far behind his older brother Tony, and soon joined by siblings Jody and Chara. Shawn was never alone and grew up like most other Oklahoma boys, rolling around in the dirt, playing with friends and family outside and enjoying the Southwest Oklahoma mountains.
At the young age of 21, Shawn decided he wanted to join the Marines. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina and would go on to serve in Desert Storm under Aviation Operations as a helicopter door gunner. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1987 to 1993 and received an honorable discharged as Lance Corporal.
After serving in Desert Storm, Shawn moved to Oklahoma City where he married and had his two beautiful children, Cody and Kaleigh King that he loved dearly.
During his final years, Shawn lived in Enid, Oklahoma where he was a proud member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion where he served as the Post Vice Commander. He was also an active member of the American Pool Players Association where he enjoyed competing in pool tournaments with beloved friends. He was a member of the Enid Corvette Club stemming from his love for motorcycles and cars and had an amazing green thumb. You would often find him planting trees, exotic plants and offering helpful advice to those not so inclined. Last but not least, Shawn was a devout OU fan and loved to heckle his OSU or "school we will not mention" friends and family as he was humorously situated in a family "divided". He would hope we could all have a laugh as we celebrate him in memory and life.
Shawn was preceded in death by his father Allen King, brother Tony King, and grandparents Bernie and Ruby King, Edgar and Ruby Dreyer, and Junior and Charlotte Tignor. He is survived by his children, Cody and Kaleigh King of Oklahoma City. His mother Carolyn and husband Danny Hokett of Hobart, stepfather Joe and wife Shanna Van Ausdall of Granite, brother Joe and sister in law April Van Ausdall of Stillwater, sister Chara and brother in law David Spann of Enterprise, Alabama. Nieces Hannah Easley of Dothan, Alabama, Meagan (Lewis) Bilyeu of Stillwater, Tommy (Eric) Waite of Stillwater, nephew Jeremiah Spann of Enterprise, Alabama and many aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.
Services will be held on May 21st at First Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. in Granite, OK with graveside to follow at Mangum, OK. Viewing will be open to the public and at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Hobart, OK.
