Sally Delores (Holman) Shaffer was born to John Lucius and Willie Marie Holman on February 6, 1938 in Rocky, OK.
As a young child, Sally loved to sing which began a life-long love of music. Blessed with an ear for music, she did not need to read sheet music to play many instruments, including the piano, guitar, and her beloved steel guitar. In the late 1950s, she and her sisters Ruth and Glenda had a radio show in Hobart, OK under the group name Ruth, Lynn, and Lori, with Sally as the lead singer. She and her family had a connection to Nashville, TN and were friends with country music performers, some of which she kept in touch with for the rest of her life. They sang at the Rocky, OK gym for community concerts even after they retired from performing. Later in life, Sally performed with different musicians, usually with the steel guitar, and at one time turned down a professional career playing the steel guitar. There was no one who could play the steel guitar better than she could. The steel guitar she performed with during most of her life is now in a steel guitar museum.
As a farmer's daughter, Sally had a love for farming and gardening. She had a green thumb and could grow a garden in years when others could not. She spent most of her life maintaining large gardens and always had fresh or frozen vegetables no matter what time of the year it was. She loved to cook and eat and was best known for the Desert Rose Bakery in Cordell, OK where she made her famous cinnamon rolls. She was also a valued employee at Robertson's Factory for many years until it closed in 2002.
Sally loved the Native American heritage and spent most of her life decorating with Indian rugs and art. She loved Santa Fe, New Mexico and made several trips to visit over the years.
Sally is preceded in death by her husband, David Shaffer, her parents, Lucius and Willie Holman, brother Carroll Holman, sisters Mary Fite, Ruth Holman, and Glenda Raleigh, and granddaughter Kayla Beth Johnson.
