Ruby Reuber

November 2, 1913 — January 7, 2017

Ruby Mildred Hayes Reuber
Ruby Mildred Hayes Reuber passed peacefully to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at the age of 103. Ruby was born on November 2, 1913 in Mountain View, Oklahoma the daughter of Claude Elmore and Edna Pearl (McIver) Hayes. Ruby was raised on the family farm with her sister Jessie. On April 12, 1941 in Bessie, Oklahoma Ruby married Marvin Reuber. Marvin and Ruby were blessed with three children Donald, Patsy and Dennis.
Ruby graduated from high school in Sentinel, Oklahoma. Following graduation, she attended Southwestern College in Weatherford, Oklahoma graduating with her Bachelors of Education. Ruby then began touching the lives of students in Custer County School and Clinton Sherman Air Force Base in Burns Flatt, Oklahoma. After retiring from teaching she continued her love of making a difference and helping others. Just as she had touched the lives of her students she then began touching the lives of the residents of Cordell Christian Nursing Home where she worked until the age of 83. Over the years, she touched many lives with her sense of humor, caring ways and her example of walking with grace and the love of Jesus.
Throughout her entire life Ruby lived out her faith by showing the love of Christ everywhere she went. Ruby was a member of First Baptist Church in Cordell, Oklahoma. Ruby was always faithful to attend church and after moving to Ponca City she joined First Baptist Church of Ponca City.
Ruby and Marvin loved to spend their lunch hour together watching Days of Our Lives which she continued to watch for many years after Marvin's passing. Ruby shared her enjoyment of Days of Our Lives when family would visit creating a new generation of fans. Ruby got great delight from receiving letters from loved ones and would make sure she responded to the letters she received. She loved to watch baseball and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers. Reading was something Ruby enjoyed whether it was a book for enjoyment or her daily bible reading or devotional. Ruby said the secret to staying young was to keep busy. One of the ways she did that was crocheting. She crocheted many afghans, many of which she donated to Cordell Christian Nursing Home for the residents to enjoy. She also kept busy volunteering at First Baptist Clothes Closet in Cordell, Oklahoma. Ruby loved to listen to southern gospel music praising her savior.
Ruby was devoted to her family and in 2001 at the age of 87 Ruby moved from Cordell, Oklahoma to Ponca City to be closer to her family. Ruby enjoyed spending time and attending the activities of her son, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild. Ruby loved getting together for birthdays and family dinners especially if fried chicken was on the menu. She loved when people joked and teased with her and she was always ready to joke and tease right back. Ruby never hesitated to let her family know that she loved them a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin, infant son Dennis, sister Jessie Ivey and infant great granddaughter Amanda Anne. Ruby had many other family members and friends waiting for her to join them for a great reunion in Heaven.
Ruby is survived by son Donald Reuber and wife Linda of Ponca City. Daughter Patsy Ann Coleman of Yukon, Oklahoma. Grandchildren Denise Tyson and husband Ray and Emily Blake and husband Chuck both of Ponca City. Robin Register and husband Kenneth of Mustang, Oklahoma, Ross Coleman of Yukon, Oklahoma.
