Roy Lee Lindsey, Sr.

May 3, 1934 — November 12, 2021

Roy Lee Lindsey, Sr. was born on May 3, 1934, in Amber, OK. He died Friday, November 12, 2021. Roy was the oldest of five children born to Millard S. and Etta Emmaline (Davidson) Lindsey. He was raised on a dairy farm in Grady County. He graduated from Amber High School in 1952. He attended college at Oklahoma A&M University for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant. He returned to the family dairy. While milking cows twice a day, he attended college at Oklahoma City University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in business marketing in 1962. On March 30, 1962, he married Judith Gay Sprague, in Chickasha, OK. The couple moved to Perkins, OK, where Roy worked as a regional sales representative for Allis Chalmers and Judy attended college. In 1968 Roy bought a share of the Allis Chalmers dealership in Cordell, OK. He continued to manage day to day affairs at King-Lindsey, Inc., until his retirement in 2018.
Anyone who knew Roy understood his passion for agriculture and his commitment to the men and women who work every day to feed this world. He often spoke fondly of his time in the milking parlor or the summer he spent picking green beans for Green Giant in Illinois. Countless young men and women in Washita County had the opportunity to learn what it means to work hard and serve others from behind the counters at King-Lindsey.
Roy was widely recognized by his peers for outstanding service and leadership. He served on the Allis Chalmers and AGCO National Dealer Panels, was president of the Southwest Hardware and Implement Association, president of the Cordell Rotary Club, president of the Washita County Fair Board and a member of the Washita County Free Fair Hall of Fame, and recognized by both 4-H clubs and FFA chapters for his support of agricultural youth. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Cordell. He served on the board of trustees, pastor/parish relations, and finance committees for the church in Cordell and as a trustee for the Clinton District of the United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Cordell Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law Orvel Shook and Donald Savage. He is survived by his wife Judy; son Roy Lee Lindsey, Jr., wife Melissa, and granddaughter Elizabeth of Apex, NC; son Dr. Troy Lindsey, wife Ann, grandsons Keaton and Devin of Frisco, TX; son James Lindsey, wife Beth and grandsons Adam and Samuel of Cordell; Brother Don Lindsey and wife Patsy of Oklahoma City; Sisters Carolyn Savage of Bison, Lois Shook of Oklahoma City, and Katie Kaiser and husband Max of Enid.
