Roy A. Fanning

June 14, 1932 — November 2, 2012

Roy Adile Fanning, 80, of Anadarko, was born south of Mountain View June 14, 1932, to Jacob Adile and Martha Mary (Mock) Fanning. He was called home by our Lord on Friday, November 2, 2012, in Oklahoma City at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
Roy was separated from his family and was left virtually on his own at the age of 11. He spent brief times with many families. Roy even slept many nights in ditches along the way but always wound up at the home of Ralph and Angie Dodd where he was considered in every way one of their children. Roy married his childhood sweetheart, the former Helen Odette Edwards, on August 22, 1954, in the First Baptist Church in Mountain View. Roy and Odette remained best friends and partners for life in every undertaking. He was an outstanding athlete and a great and honorable son of God, husband, father and friend. Roy was an accomplished carpenter, farmer and rancher. He spent many years living and working in Arizona. Several years were spent with the Flagstaff Sherriff's Search and Rescue Team where he held many leadership roles with his family serving right beside him.
Roy enjoyed scuba diving, tracking, hiking, archery, hunting, dune buggy racing and country dancing all with family and friends.
Roy was held in high esteem as a family leader. His word was his bond. Roy loved life and everyone in it He was a quiet man with a great smile, a spark in his eyes and a skip in his step.
Preceding him in death were his parents, one daughter, Bernadette Mae, two brothers, Jack Fanning and Bill Fanning and two sisters, Lola Swearingen and Trixie Richardson.
Survivors include his wife, Odette of the home, his daughter, Vaughndean Martinez and her husband, Vicente; his son, LaRoyce Fanning and Jessica; ten grandchildren, Logan Brent Fanning, Blayne Courtney, Jack Courtney, Shadin Martinez, Dekes Martinez all of Anadarko, Alberto Martinez, Jahlaira Martinez, Sarahata Martinez all of Oklahoma City and Middleton Martinez of Mexico; two brothers, Bub Fanning of Meridian, Mississippi and Carl Fanning of Fargo, North Dakota; one sister, Wanda Dipetro and her husband, Bill of Pennsylvania; all of the Ralph and Angie Dodd family, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
