Dr. Ronald Wayne Overton, Th.D., 71, of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, passed away on September 28, 2021. He was born on May 28, 1950, the fourth of eight children, to Warren and Irene (Benjamin) Overton in Coalgate, Oklahoma. He was a loving father, minister, and school teacher.
Following his graduation from Lone Wolf High School in 1968, Ron moved to California, where he earned a bachelor's degree from California State University, Los Angeles. He continued on to obtain a Masters degree in Special Education from Point Loma Nazarene University. Later, he received a Doctrine in Theology from Andersonville Theological Seminary.
Ron taught and preached in California until 2005. He returned to Oklahoma in 2005, where he continued to teach and preach. He also enjoyed ranching and living a quiet life near his siblings.
In addition to his roles as father, pastor, and teacher, he was an award-winning author of poetry. He also succeeded at coaching, fishing, and cooking, and he loved watching OU football, Lakers basketball, and many old westerns.
He is survived by his Children: Ronald Overton II and wife Sheila, Fremont, CA; Michael Overton and wife Jennifer, Moreno Valley, CA; Timothy Overton and wife Bethany, Avondale, AZ; and Brian Overton, San Jacinto, CA. He is also survived by 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchild, as well as six siblings: Glen Overton, Chickasha, OK; James Overton, Tulsa, OK; Elizabeth Carlock, Dayton, OH; Donald Overton, Hobart, OK; Charles Overton, Hobart, OK; and LoraAnn Overton, Fort Wayne, IN.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Irene Overton, and his sister Warna Lee Overton.
He spent his life learning, teaching, and serving. He left a legacy of inspiration and love with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, congregations, students, and others. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him.
