Ronald Richard Greenfeather English

December 16, 1943 — March 27, 2016

Ronald Richard "Greenfeather" English was born December 16, 1943 at Breckenridge, Minnesota, and began his spiritual journey on March 27, 2016. He was the son of Samuel and Blanche Delorme English. Ron was a proud member of the Turtle Mtn. Band of Chippewa Indians of Belcourt, ND, and was also of Red Lake Ojibwe descent. Ron was active in the early days and inception of the American Indian Movement and was a well outspoken key leader for his Indian people having participated in demonstrations in his early days for the oppressed Indigenous Tribes. He worked alongside the AIM leaders, the Late Russell Means, Dennis Banks, Clyde and Vernon Belcourt, and Floyd Westerman, Tribal leaders such as Wendell Chino. For this he was very proud. He remained in the spirit of AIM although in his later years he was unable to actively participate. When growing up Ron lived on various Indian Reservations as his parents were Federal Civil Service Employees. To name a few, he lived at Phoenix, Zuni, Mescalero and Ignacio, Colorado; where he graduated from High School and excelled in various sports including football, basketball and baseball. He attended college at Ft. Lewis in Durango, Colorado and Oklahoma City University Oklahoma where he met Janet Toyebo English and they have been married for forty-one years. He was a full time well known professional Indian artist who traveled to many art shows nationwide. Ron began working at Riverside Indian School, Anadarko, Oklahoma in the Student Services Department where he retired in 2014 from the Federal Service after being employed for 20 years and 11 months. While working at Riverside he made numerous friends who he considered as family and who fondly remembered him as "OE". Ron lived in the Anadarko community for 33 years. Ron was a member of the Kiowa Gourd Clan which he felt was a true honor. He was raised a Catholic and currently attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Anadarko. Ron was baptized into the Christian faith in the mid-1970's by Rev. Frank Venable in Oklahoma City. He was also a member of the Rainy Mtn. Kiowa Indian Baptist Church where he attended with his family.
Ron is survived by his wife Janet, of the home; son: Sky Omaha English of Anadarko; daughters: Fawn and Ronay English of the home; brothers: Samuel English, Robert "Skip" English of Albuquerque, NM, and Donna English of Towaco, CO.; one adopted Kiowa brother: Barney Botone of Bismark, ND; ten grandchildren: Kai and Kaleb English of Colorado, Jalyn Rose Pahcoddy, Brett Omaha English, Jackson Todd English, BJ Pahcoddy, Daniel English, Wyatt English, Jordyn Marie Pahcoddy all of Anadarko, and Paisley English of Texas; sister and brother-in-law: Sharon and Terry Hunter; brother-in-law: Luke Toyebo, Jr; his father-in-law: Luke Toyebo, Sr. all of Anadarko; two maternal aunts: Rhea Delorme Kness of Leadville, CO, and Stella Delorme Garcia of Devils lake, ND; cousin: Leogene "Toody" English of Red Lake, MN, David Jolly of Belcourt, ND, Donnie Flower of Minneapolis, MN and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents: Sam and Blanche Delorme English; son: Richard Todd English; brother: Thomas English; mother-in-law: Rosemary Toyebo.
Ron was a very active father and grandfather and enjoyed attending their athletic events. He was a true believer in Christ and has joined his Heavenly Father.
Funeral Service will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Rainy Mountain Kiowa Indian Baptist Church. Burial will follow under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home. Rosary and Prayer Service will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Christ Our Savior Pentecostal Church, Anadarko.
