Roger Kent Abbott, 48, of Anadarko, was born May 2, 1965, to Jimmie Edgar and Fern Lorene (Brown) Abbott in Anadarko. He passed from this life on Sunday, October 20, 2013, after a lengthy battle with depression.
Roger was raised in Gracemont and graduated from high school there with the Class of 1983. He worked for Kentucky Fried Chicken and Mazzio's as a cook. It was at Mazzio's where he met and fell in love with Ginger Hall. They were married September 13, 1991, in the home of his in-laws, Bill and Kathy Hall. He later worked for Great Plains Glass, Braum's Dairy in Tuttle and then for the City of Anadarko at the waste water plant as a lab technician.
Roger enjoyed music and in high school he took an instrumental music course where he was in a class of one. He especially liked playing piano and keyboards and was in several bands through the years. Roger played in several churches in the area and for various occasions. He loved helping people with various tasks and repairs (the things no one else wanted to do) and mowing lawns. Roger loved God, was an avid reader and a great student of the Holy Bible. He also was a meticulous cook and loved to make an unbeatable peanut brittle. Roger especially loved being “PaPa†to his two grandchildren, Alexis and Alana.
Preceding him in death were his father, Edgar and two brothers-in-law, Ronnie McCune and Mike Reed.
Survivors include his wife, Ginger, of the home; two sons, Josh Abbott and his wife, Sarah of Mustang and Matt Abbott and his girlfriend, Emily Hickey, both of Weatherford, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Alexis and Alana Abbott of Mustang; mother Fern Abbott of Gracemont; four sisters, Margie Burns and her husband, Kenneth of Gracemont, Pat Trotter and her husband, Bill of Poteau, Linda Kurns and her husband, Gary of El Reno and Judy Smith and her husband, Barry of Milledgeville, Georgia; brother, Eddie Abbott of Carnegie; four uncles, Tom Brown and his wife, Alice, Joe Brown and his wife, Mary, George Brown and Jerry Brown and his wife, Linda Sue; aunt, Ida Davis; father and mother-in-law, Bill and Kathy Hall of Anadarko; sister-in-law, Vicki Missey and her husband, Mike of Newcastle; his MeeMee, Mary Jameson of Anadarko numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The funeral for Roger is scheduled for 2:30 P.M., Friday, October 25, 2013, at the Gracemont First Baptist Church with Burial to follow in the Gracemont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that gifts be given to a benefit fund set up to assist them at the Anadarko and Gracemont First State Bank.
