Roger Dewayne Tofpi (whose Kiowa name was "Hay Gya Gou Gaw" meaning "I am well"), 68, of Norman, Oklahoma was born on November 4, 1952 in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Lindy Tofpi Sr. and Etta (Wash) Tofpi. Roger entered Heaven on January 4, 2021 after passing away at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Roger graduated from Carnegie High School with the Class of 1971. Roger continued his schooling at both Haskell Indian Nations University and Bacone College. Roger enjoyed doing bead-work, going to NAC prayer services, gourd dancing and singing at pow-wow's, and cheering on the OU Sooners, Dallas Cowboys, and Carnegie Wildcats.
Roger was a member of the Kiowa Tribe and the Northern Ute Tribe. He was a member of the Kiowa Native American church, as well as, Cedar Creek Methodist Church. Roger was also a member of the Kiowa Gourd Clan.
Roger is survived by his companion, Cheryl McClelland of Norman, Oklahoma; one son, Ned Michael Tofpi of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two daughters, Kaylen Mae Tofpi and her companion, Trevor Beaver of Carnegie, Oklahoma, Lyndee Jon McClelland and her companion, Joe Jourdain of Cass Lake, Minnesota; one brother, Lindbergh Tofpi Jr. of Carnegie, Oklahoma; one sister, Gloria "Nan" Huffman of Carnegie, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Gerald Tahkofper, Alysa Tahkofper, and Karlee Tahkofper all of Carnegie, Oklahoma, Michael Roger Tofpi of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Joseph Jourdain Jr. and Joselyn Jourdain both of Cass Lake, Minnesota; six aunts, Mona Nauni, Mary "Chely" Tofpi, Sarah Poorbuffalo, Martha "Ver" Koomsa, Wilda Koomsa, Peggy Maynahonah; numerous sons, daughters, brothers, uncles, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and many other extended families throughout the U.S. Native Country.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Lindbergh Tofpi Sr. and Etta (Wash) Tofpi; special dad, Chalmers Wash; grandparents, Roger and May Zotigh-Hall Tofpi; uncle, Harry Tofpi; aunts, Ruby Belle Tofpi and Rachel Stickler; niece, Rainy Day Tofpi.
Funeral services for Roger will be at 11:00am on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Tofpi Homestead. Interment will follow at the Tofpi Family Cemetery on South 40 & County Road 1370 in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Rev. Monroe Tsatoke assisted by Rev. Gerald Haunpo. Under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Carnegie, Oklahoma.
