Rex Edgar Herren was born June 27th, 1948 in Cherokee, OK to Ralph and Ramona Baker Herren. He left this physical life August 10th, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. He resided in Cherokee, OK for his early years before moving to Tonkawa, OK at age 9. He graduated from Tonkawa High School in 1966, then attended Northern Oklahoma College completing his two-year degree. He married the love of his life Annette Walcher on August 22nd, 1968. They moved to Norman, OK and attended the University of Oklahoma where he graduated with his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1970. He attended the University of Oklahoma Law School and graduated in 1974 with a Juris Doctorate, with a one-year interim on faculty at Northern Oklahoma College. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Interior in Anadarko serving as an attorney representing the Bureau of Indian Affairs. During his time in Anadarko, three of his five daughters (Andrea 1974, Elizabeth/Beth in 1976, and Cherie in 1978) were born to him and Annette. The family moved to Edmond, OK in 1980 where Rex worked with a private law firm. In 1981, he returned to work with the Department of Interior Tulsa, OK office. After moving to Tulsa, Rex and Annette welcomed their only son David in 1982, and 4th daughter Emilee in 1985. In 1987 Rex took advantage of the opportunity to purchase Fleming Abstract in Cordell, OK, and subsequently purchasing Washita County Abstract in 1989. After the move to Cordell, Rex and Annette were blessed with the birth of their youngest child Felice in 1988. In 2006 Rex sold his company and resumed practicing law full time in Cordell. Through the years Rex was active in many civic activities in Cordell, serving as an officer in Kiwanis Club, the Cordell Chamber of Commerce, and the Cordell Hospital Board of Directors. Rex's two loves were God and his family. He and his family attended the 4th and College Church of Christ all his years while living in Cordell, where Rex served in various roles and offices in the church. He took great joy watching his children and grandchildren attend school, participate in athletic events, music programs and live their lives. He also enjoyed the mountains of New Mexico, reading biographies, world travel, and his beloved Oklahoma Sooners.
Rex was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Edgar and Valera Herren, maternal grandparents Ralph Baker and Louisa Whitworth Baker, and father Ralph Leonard Herren.
Rex is survived by his wife Annette Herren of Cordell, OK, his mother Ramona Herren of Cherokee and Cordell, OK, his brother R. L. and wife Margaret Herren of Norman, OK, his children Andrea and her husband Chet Horn with their children Caleb and Wesley of Mustang, OK; Beth and her husband Dutch Smith with their children Drew Geisler, Raigan Geisler, and Gretta Geisler of Cordell, OK; Cherie and her husband Ben Dunham with their children Ethan, Annabelle, and Lily of Edmond, OK; David and his wife Heather Herren of Moore, OK; Emilee and her husband Josh Bailey of Hydro, OK; Felice and her husband Aaron Palacios of Edmond, OK, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
