Raymond "Birdie" Hoffman was born wild and ornery July 21st 1936 at Fort Sill to Neil Hoffman and Ismall Patton (Hoffman). He shared this birthday with four other Pattons. As a young man he enjoyed being around friends and family, spending time outdoors, racing cars (sometimes in reverse), working at Stars Grill where he was famous for his "Birdie Burger", and of course, getting into trouble.
In December 1958 he married Annette Spence, and while he would never admit, she made him a little less wild, but no less ornery. During this time he worked at the cotton gins in Gotebo and Mountain View, as a Superintendent at Dolese, and then finding his true calling in farming. He had two children, Gayla and Randy then also helped raise Ross Patton and Rob Giller.
Eventually, after a long and successful career in farming, Birdie would retire, although he made sure to stay no less busy. In these later years, Birdie found joy and peace in God and church, drinking coffee with the boys at Clarks, working on his garden, and watching old westerns (especially Gunsmoke). Nothing, however, brought him more happiness than spending as much time as possible with his family.
Birdie Hoffman will be remembered for his mischievous antics (such as jumping off his roof in a gorilla mask at Halloween or leaning his seat all the way back while he let one of his grandkids or great-grandkids drive down Main Street), his ability to exasperate Nette, but more than anything the love, kindness, and help he always showed to his many, many friends, family, and even strangers. He will be dearly missed, but his life is one that can be truly celebrated for the fullness in which he lived it.
