Phyllis Mae Autaubo Kotay, 80, of Apache, OK, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, August 9, 2020, at the Comanche Memorial Hospital in Lawton, OK. Phyllis was born on May 22, 1940 in Anadarko, OK to Henry Autaubo and Norma Bishop Ware Autaubo. She was the last daughter of Henry and Norma Autaubo. She grew up in Mtn. View, OK and attended Mtn. View Public Schools and Riverside Indian School.
Phyllis was an enrolled member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. She was a devoted Christian and follower of her Lord Jesus Christ. She grew up attending the Rainy Mtn. Kiowa Indian Baptist Church and became a faithful member of the church at an early age. Phyllis was blessed with two loving daughters, Lanora Jean Autaubo and Martha Lynn Autaubo. She married Larry Kotay in 1978 and moved to Broxton. She then transferred her church membership to Redstone Baptist Church near Anadarko. Phyllis was a dedicated worker in the church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and she prepared meals along with other ladies of the church. She was always ready and willing to encourage and support others in their times of sorrow or need; sharing God's Word, singing his praises over them and uplifting them in prayer.
She loved to sing her Kiowa Hymns; always thankful for the ability that God gave her to help sing the songs she learned from her dad. She loved to sew, cook and do whatever she was able to for others. She loved to laugh and tell stories of her early days growing up in Mtn. View with her brothers, sisters, cousins (whom she also referred to as brothers and sisters); playing sports, going to ball games and the Sock Hops. She was a huge sports fan and loved to cheer for the OKC Thunders, OU Sooners, Anadarko Warriors, Apache Warriors, Carnegie Wildcats, and the Riverside Braves. She made many trips to the "Big House" to watch her teams play in the state Tournament. She loved going to the Fort. Sill Apache AOA sharing meals and spending time with her friends there.
Along with being a deeply devoted Christian, Phyllis was also a deeply devoted mother, wife, auntie, grandmother. She took great pride and care in being a homemaker. She was also very supportive in all of her daughter's and grandchildren's activities; as well as many other activities of her nieces and nephews.
She was an out-going person with a personality that spoke for itself. She loved to visit with all her friends and relatives whenever she had the chance. She had a great love and compassion for others and so many were touched by her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
