Paula Lemarr Mcbride

March 12, 1958 — October 12, 2019

A farewell gathering for Paula LeMarr McBride Savage, 61, of Anadarko will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the offices of The Anadarko Daily News, 117 E. Broadway in downtown Anadarko, after the OU-West Virginia football game. All OU fans are enouraged to wear their gear in honor of Paula's great love for the University of Oklahoma Sooners.
She was born March 12, 1958 at the Anadarko hospital to Carolyn Nell (Meyers) and Joe W. McBride Jr., and passed from this life on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019 at her home in Anadarko.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe and Clella (LeMarr) McBride and Opal "Dee" Stuart Meyers Kardokus; her step-grandfather, James M. Kardokus; her uncles, Dr. David L. McBride and David D. Hill; her brother-in- law, Wes Savage; her parents-in-law, Marvin and Lillian Savage, and many great-aunts and uncles and other relatives.
Paula grew up in Anadarko where she was a member of her mother's Camp Fire Ta Won-Ka group, and received her Wo-He-Lo medallion her senior year in high school. Family friend Dixon Palmer gave her the name Koy-Mah-Ton, "Kiowa Girl," for her Camp Fire name.
Known to many as "Paula Mac," or "one of the 'famous' McBride sisters," she was a graduate of the Anadarko High School Class of 1976, and served as junior class president.
She was also an ambassador for the Great Plains Country Association her senior year. She was a talented artist and member of the high school drama productions. Paula was also a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls.
After graduation, she carried on family tradition and attended the University of Oklahoma in Norman, receiving a degree in journalism in 1988. She later received a minor in religious studies from OU. Her family used to joke that Paula would never graduate from college, but just keep taking more classes because she liked learning so much.
She was a huge proponent for the university and an avid OU Sooner football fan.
On Aug. 30, 1992, Paula married Earl Savage, the love of her life, in Anadarko. They had recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary.
Her working career started at the Anadarko Printing & Office Supply in 1972, which was owned by her parents. She began working at The Anadarko Daily News in 1974. She was employed there as assistant editor at the time of her death. She worked in the newspaper advertising department in high school, but began her career in the news department soon after college. Her column, "Whatever Happened To ..." was a Daily News reader favorite. She served as editor of The Daily News weekend edition for many years. She also worked in the ad department of the Oklahoma Daily newspaper on the OU campus.
Paula never met a stranger, and her hugs were legendary. She had a smile for everyone she met, and was a listening ear for most. She was generous with her time and loved seeing old and new friends.
She adored her nephews, Dalton and Max, and loved to spoil them with attention. Her five grandchildren called her "Dingo," and loved to go visit and spend time with her.
An avid gardener, Paula loved to work in her yard and show visitors all the plantings there, giving the common and scientific names for all of them.
She also loved to do historical research and was an authority on Mary, Queen of Scotts, from whom she was a direct descendant. She was extremely proud of her Scots-Irish heritage.
She was an excellent cook, with very few failures, and always helped prepare holiday and family meals. She was the keeper of her Grandmother McBride's recipes and her Grandmother Dee's desserts.
A woman of many talents, she was a great photographer and a good seamstress. She was one of the original Star Wars fans, as well, with Harrison Ford as her favorite actor.
She was a life-long Democrat and served in the Caddo County Democrats group. She was president of the Anadarko Rotary club and had served on the board of the Christian Center in Anadarko. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Anadarko Housing Authority board.
Leaving to mourn her loss are her beloved husband, Earl, of the home; her son, Seth Savage and his wife, Lacy of Fort Cobb; her daughter, Sarah (Savage) Mace and her husband, Andrew of Huntington Beach, Calif.; her parents, Joe and Carolyn McBride of Anadarko; her sisters, JoNell McBride-Thomas and her husband, David Thomas, and Carla McBride-Alexander and her husband, David Alexander, all of Anadarko, and Dana McBride of Austin, Texas; two nephews, Dalton Thomas of Norman and Max Alexander of Anadarko; four nieces, Jeannie Forneris of Ada, Alese Savage of Fort Cobb, Terrie Tolton of Anadarko and Chase McBride of Austin; five grandchildren, Gunner and Denver Savage of Fort Cobb, and Lillian, Daphne and Amelia Mace, of Huntington Beach with grandson Emmett on the way; her aunt, Sandy Hill of Tulsa; a great-aunt, Jean Stuart of Anadarko, and numerous cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
An accomplished master of jokes and stories, Paula would tell new ones or favorites at every possible occasion. She is in Heaven now with family and friends who have passed before her, telling jokes and making them laugh.
Her beloved "Sugarfoot" a/k/a "Dalty" said about his Aunt Paula, "She had much muchness, as the Hatter said." Yes, indeed, and she is gone far too soon.
Farewell, our Paula Mac, Paudy Mar, Aunt Paula, Dingo and Sweetheart, we'll see you on the other side. Love you forever.
