Patrick Hancock

December 16, 1934 — October 1, 2022

Patrick Hancock, the "Mayor of Sedan", passed away peacefully at his home on October 1, 2022. Pat was born on December 16, 1934 in Hobart, OK, to Roy and Sybil Hancock. Pat was the middle child of three brothers, Quentin Hancock the oldest and Byron "Zeke" Hancock the youngest. Sybil had a lifetime teaching certificate from SWOSU and taught the Hancock boys a lot at home. Pat also attended Sedan school, graduated from Mountain View High School, and attended Cameron Jr. College, and then graduated with a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from Oklahoma A&M now Oklahoma State University. Unbeknownst to many, Pat also completed classes at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, and Rose State College in Oklahoma City, expanding his studies to include law, medicine and agriculture. Pat's earliest jobs and memories included being a "plowboy-cowboy" and watching his father, Roy, help found Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma Flying Farmers, and the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, OK.
In 1958, Pat married his princess, partner for life, and fellow Oklahoma A&M aggie, Barbara Ann Holsapple. Pat and Barbara enjoyed traveling, hosting family and friends at their home, and attending Oklahoma State University sporting events with their SAE and Pi Phi friends.
After college, Pat worked at Boeing in Wichita, Kansas, designing the "wet wing" for the B-52 bomber. When his father, Roy, died in a tragic plane crash, Pat and Barbara returned to the family ranch at Sedan, OK. Pat became a lifelong farmer/rancher while also working in the oil field for companies like Exxon, Apache, Conoco, Phillips, Getty, and Shell as a geologist and deep gas well consultant. He also worked for the US Department of Agriculture (Hydrology), 3M, and was a Reserve Deputy Sherriff for Kiowa County. He contributed to the Oklahoma Feed Yard Act and participated in the National Cotton Council. In later years, Pat had the Hancock Ranch certified as a Centennial Ranch.
Pat is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann. Pat is survived by his two brothers, Quentin (and Sue) Hancock of Flower Mound, TX and Byron Hancock of Sulphur, OK; Pat & Barbara's three children, Tricia Floyd of Mountain View, OK, Don (and Jayme) Hancock of Oolagah, OK, and Paula (and Chad) Duerksen of Wichita, KS; eight grandkids; and two great grandchildren. He was deeply loved by many, and his dry wit and basketball quips ("Set the bone!") will be missed by all.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Sedan Fire Department.
