Patsy (Pat) Charlene Mathis left for her eternal home on November 10, 2021. She is now in the presence of her savior and her husband R.B. Mathis, who preceded her in death.
Pat was the only daughter born to Cecil and Maloria Luper on August 2, 1935 at the family farm near Wanette, OK. She is survived by her son Chris Mathis and wife Kristin of Carrollton, TX; son Mike Mathis and wife Tiphanie of Edmond, OK; and 7 Mathis grandchildren: Andrew, Rebecca, Timmi, Luke, Sarah, Rhyan, and Jake.
Pat graduated from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City in 1953 and was married to R.B. at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Pat always said that R.B. wasn't only her husband, but her best friend. They were introduced in high school and took their first date on a hayride. Pat said she wasn't sure she wanted to date him again because he hardly said a word. That sounds completely uncharacteristic of R.B. However, after a trip to the zoo, he must have won her heart because from then on they rarely spent a day apart. After R.B. passed away in April of 2020, Pat was just patiently waiting until she could be with him again. Those of you who know R.B. realize what a special person it would take to be with him for 67 years. If R.B. were here, he would be laughing right now!
Pat was a faithful wife, dedicated mother, and loving grandma. She followed R.B. in his 10 year career with Anthony's and almost 55 year career in the ministry. Pat was a faithful servant to the church and a great witness to many as she taught Sunday school almost all of that time. Pat held several jobs through the years, but one of her favorites was working at the funeral home and ministering to families. Pat and R.B. could be ready on short notice to take a visit to Edmond or Dallas to visit grandkids or help out as needed. She always had knitting in hand and Bible Bingo which the grandkids loved (along with all the quarters and candy she would give them when they would win). Those of you who have had the pleasure to know Pat, realize that she was one of the nicest people you have ever met. She loved hugs and had such a sweet spirit that was noticed by anyone who met her. She was also an excellent cook and loved to serve her family in this way. Even to her last days Pat would say how much she loved God. What a witness to us all!
Pat was greatly loved and will be missed. Thank you, Pat, for modeling Jesus and being a great example of a Godly woman to us all!
