Funeral services for Oren Baden, 85, Roosevelt, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The First Baptist Church, Roosevelt, with the Rev. Ken Baden and the Rev. Tim Tutten officiating.
Mr. Baden passed away Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Ayers Nursing Home, Snyder.
Oren Lee Baden was born on August 24, 1926, in Mt. Park, to George and Rosa Baden. He attended Mt. Park Public Schools, graduating in 1944. Oren served in the U. S. Army from June 1944 until his honorable discharge in April 1946. While serving in the armed services, he also played trumpet in the army band. He met the love of his life in1942, and while on leave, he married Geraldine Emmons on January 27, 1946 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. This blessed romance lasted over 66 years.
Oren and Geri began their farming life together in Cold Springs, Oklahoma and moved to the Consolidated 8 Community in 1957, where they raised their family. They raised cotton, wheat, and cattle. Oren was actively involved with the farming operation until he moved to the Ayers Nursing Home just short of 8 years ago.
Oren and Geri have been active church members all their adult life; raising their children in the Cold Springs Friends Church and then becoming members of the Roosevelt First Baptist Church upon completion of the Tom Steed Lake. At both churches, Oren served as a trustee, deacon, Sunday school superintendent, numerous church committees and as a Sunday school teacher for over 35 years. Oren also served as the piano player when needed and could always be seen in the choir. He was a noted bass singer and, along with Geri, sang at many functions and funerals.
Oren served 15 years on the Roosevelt School Board and board of directors on the Con. 8 Gin. The Badens were selected as the 1960 Kiowa County Farm Family of the Year and competed at the state level.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken & Marcia Baden, Lawton, Randy & Paula Baden, Altus, daughter and son-in-law, Pam & Dean Holland, Roosevelt, grandchildren: Kale & Amy Baden, Norman, Kris & Todd Ryans, Oklahoma City, Mandy & Brian Carpenter, Clovis, NM, Derrick Holland, Roosevelt, Erin & Jimmy Naughton, Boynton Beach, FL, Haylee & Josh McDorman, Jenks, Megan & Steven Schroeder, Moore, Adam Baden, Lawton, Lacie & Tyler Deckard, Richlands, NC, and Shawn Easton, Norman, great-grandchildren: Jackson & Kole Baden, Kaleb & Audrey Ryans, Luke & Max Carpenter, James & Hadley Naughton, Maycee McDorman, Durbin Schroeder, Oliviah & Madilyn Deckard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Rosa Baden, two brothers, Albert Baden & Melvin Baden, a sister, Lucille Hash, a daughter Cindy Baden Dickerson, and granddaughter, Melissa Jane Baden.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Memorial fund of the First Baptist Church, Roosevelt.
Family will be greeting friends on Monday at 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Mt. Park Cemetery under direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home of Hobart.
