Opal A. Miller, 92, of Elko, NV and a former Snyder resident, passed away August 31, 2013, in Elko, NV. She was born on August 16, 1921, to Joseph Mae and Summer Lee (Mitchell) Johnson in Roosevelt, OK. She was raised in Cold Springs, then moved to the Snyder and Mountain Park area. Opal married John T. Mahoney in 1937, in Vernon, Texas. She moved to Clinton and then Clovis, NM. After John was killed in a car accident in 1951, she moved back to Snyder. Opal then married J. T. Miller in May, 1953, and he preceded her in death in 1990. She moved to Elko, NV in 2006.
She is survived by two sons:
John Thomas Mahoney III and wife Sandy, Siloam Springs, AK
Leroy Mahoney and wife Dorothy, Hobart, OK
one daughter: Edith Nelson and husband Paul, Elko, NV
13 grandchildren, numerous great and great-great grandchildren
one brother: Theo Johnson, Clovis, NM
She is preceded in death by her parents, son, Michael Dewayne, two daughters, Oleta Mae and Lenona Lee, grandson, Roy Mahoney in 2010, great-granddaughter, Julia Isabell Mahoney, and two sisters and one brother.
