Opal Coon

April 8, 1922 — November 1, 2014

Opal Lillian Edwards Coon, 92, of Corn, OK, was called home by the Lord on November 1, 2014 at Corn Heritage Village at Corn, OK. Opal was born April 8, 1922 at Cyril, OK to Lewis Lafayette (LL) and Ida Gusta Jane ( Warner) Edwards. She was the youngest of twelve children. Opal married Samuel Harold Coon on March 23, 1938 who preceded her in death, December 09, 1996. After her husbands discharge from the army, they settled north of Carnegie, where they farmed and raised their family. They enjoyed evening visiting with family and friends and they had a wide variety of hobbies through the years. Opal was a feisty and spirited homemaker. She enjoyed shopping, changing her mind, and returning things. She was a stickler for the rules of Scrabble, and kept a dictionary close at hand. Opal will be remembered for being spunky, loving, stubborn, and determined. She took great pride in her appearance and entered every room with class and flair. She was saved and baptized at the Mountain View First Baptist Church in 1952, a long time member of New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, and the First Baptist Church of Carnegie.
