Norine Parrish was born May 1, 1920, in Beaumont, Kentucky, the eighth of nine children of Doctor Lafayette (Doc) & Ethel (York) Pennycuff, and she passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015, in Weatherford, Oklahoma at the age of 94. After moving from Kentucky as a small child, Norine learned about farming when she worked as a sharecropper with her widowed mother, brothers and sisters south of Mountain View, Oklahoma. Surviving the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl, she married her husband Norris on May 25, 1941. Soon after they were married, Norris joined the army as an aviation technician, and Norine moved with him from base to base as an army wife. When Norris left to serve in World War II, Norine worked at Shepherd Field in Wichita Falls, Texas, supporting herself and saving money to buy a river-bottom farm East of Mountain View. Norris and Norine had a daughter, Sue, in 1946, and were again on the move while Norris was working for the Bureau of Reclamation. In 1949, their son John was born. In 1951, Norine and her family returned to the farm in Mountain View. Norine was active with the FFA and Home Economics classes while her children were in school. Norine was a great businesswoman, purchasing more farmland, opening and running a dairy, raising and selling seed wheat, and operating Mountain View Grain. She was a wonderful seamstress and renowned for her pie making which she shared with the Junior and Senior class fair stands and the Mountain View Masonic lodge. In 1995, Norine received the Kiowa County's Farm Woman of the Year award, and later she received her 50-year pin from the Eastern Stars.
