Funeral services for Myra Ann Dobbins, of Carnegie and formerly of Oklahoma City, were Monday, October 24, 2011, at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home Chapel in Carnegie, OK. Services were conducted by her cousin, David Perryman, of Chickasha, where she died Friday, October 21, at a residential home.
Myra was born March 18, 1941, in Oklahoma City, and was adopted as an infant by E. L. and Ruth Horton Dobbins. She was reared in Purcell and graduated from high school there. She attended the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, and worked for a real estate company specializing in horse farms until she became disabled due to a childhood illness.
Despite considerable pain, Myra maintained an outgoing personality that gained her many friends. She took a keen Interest in her family, and kept even its extended members connected with her many phone calls and cards. Her phenomenal memory for names and events were a great help In keeping the family genealogy and history up to date. When her mother became ill, Myra took her into her home and was a steadfast companion and caregiver for several years. She was a devoted Christian and often led other women in Bible classes and Bible study. Myra was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
Myra loved pets, and usually owned a small dog or two throughout the years until she was unable to care for them herself.
Myra was preceded in death by her parents, E. L. and Ruth Dobbins of Purcell and her grandparents, E.C. and Ethel Horton of the Alden community and William and Emily Dobbins of Enid.
There are no immediate survivors, but she will be mourned and missed by many cousins and friends including Janis Dumlar and Martha James.
Burial was in the Carnegie cemetery beside her parents. A reception followed at the home of her cousins, Jay and Judy Spence, of Carnegie.
