Mildred Rosann (Shepard) Hawkins, 88, was born on September 15, 1932 in Cowden, Oklahoma to George Albert Shepard and Jewel Marie (Owens) Shepard. Mildred passed away peacefully on December 9, 2020 at Corn Heritage Village in Corn, Oklahoma.
Mildred attended high school in Cowden, Oklahoma where she graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1950. Mildred was a starting forward during her high school basketball career. Mildred married her high school sweetheart, Charles Henry Hawkins, on September 1, 1950. There were two sons and three daughters born to this union: Charlotte Ann, Alvin Wayne, Janet Lou, Ronald Charles, and Lecia LeeAnn. Mildred encouraged her children and grandchildren to study and do their homework, telling them she had "never made a B on a single report card - only A's!"
Mildred worked at Mountain View Sale Barn, Mountain View Cotton Gin, Mountain View First National Bank, and retired for the first time from Shamrock Bank in Mountain View, Oklahoma. She stayed home for a year before going back to work and becoming Site Manager at Mountain View Senior Center where she retired for the second time. In each and every job she ever had a part of, it was always a position to serve someone. She loved to be involved with everyone and also loved to give her two cents.
Mildred is survived by five children, Charlotte Huddleston and her husband, John of Mountain View, Oklahoma, Alvin Hawkins and his wife, Rita of Mountain View, Oklahoma, Janet George and her husband, Jack of Weatherford, Oklahoma, Ronald Hawkins and his wife, Heather of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and Lecia Fischer and her husband, PJ of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one sister, Marcella Kay Shepard of Mountain View, Oklahoma; twelve grandchildren, Jani Jackson, Jennifer Sechrist, Jena Green, Andy Lodes, Brian Bottom, Lindsey Bottom, Melissa Marshall, Mindy Davis, Melinda Turney, Hayle Hawkins, Brayden Fischer, Brycen Fischer; eighteen great-grandchildren.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry Hawkins; her parents, George Albert Shepard and Jewel Marie Shepard; two brothers, Melvin Dean Shepard, Joe Marion "Shorty" Shepard.
Graveside services for Mildred Hawkins will be on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 11:30am at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain View, Oklahoma. Officiating will be Jeramy Sechrist. Under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home in Mountain View, Oklahoma.
