Mickey Max Longhat

April 6, 1967 — July 31, 2010

Mickey Max Longhat came into this world on April 6, 1967 at Lawton, Oklahoma to Lula Mountain and Eddie Longhat, Jr. He was the last son born to a family who already had 9 children and was known to his mother as "baby boy". Mickey lived with his family and attended Carnegie Public Schools through his Senior year. During his high school years he ran track and ran track he did--there was one particular race in which he ran where he lost his shoe and kept going until he finished the race--barefoot!!! He was an all-around athlete who enjoyed playing sports, excelling in football and track and even setting some school track records. He continued running track with Duke Tsoodle, Jr.'s team of young Native American Indian men who were the best runners like Scott Tsoodle, Phil Kirk, Steve Quoetone, Duke Perez & Dale Gomez for two summers and according to Duke Tsoodle, they were never beaten. One year after graduating from high school, he signed up and shipped off to Camp Pendleton in So. California to serve the next four years of his life with the United States Marine Corp. He went to Desert Storm and there he saw something that changed his life forever. Upon returning home he married and raised his daughter, Melissa born during his first marriage in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He then returned home during the summer of 1994 and began working at the Correctional Center in Hinton, Oklahoma. In the fall of that year, he met and fell in love with his wife for the last 16 years of his life. They married at Mary Lee Clark United Methodist Church on February 4, 1995 and also renewed their wedding vows before some dear friends on April 20, 2010 at the VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City during one of his many hospital stays. In 1997, during the second night of the Oklahoma City Indian Crusade at Glorietta Baptist Church, Mickey accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior thus securing his entrance into heaven some day. He became very active in the church serving as a youth director for several years at Norman First American and worked alongside his wife who also was beginning to get more involved in the ministry of the church. It was through his encouragement and support that helped shape his wife's future and life as a minister of the Word. His jobs over the last 16 years have included being a prison guard, dorm attendant at Sherman Indian School in Riverside, CA, maintenance and grounds keeper for several organizations and individuals and finally a machinist for Accurate Tool & Die in OKC where he was employed until August 2009. He was a person with a big heart which had room for the children he raised. He was a loving father to Jeremy, BJ, Lynsey, Nathan & Missy during his lifetime and enjoyed the benefits of being a grandfather to six grandchildren.

All during his illness, Mickey never complained and always gave the answer to any and all that asked how he was doing--"I'm OK!!!" So on Saturday, July 31, 2010, as he took his final breath, he moved to his eternal resting place which he had already secured in 1997 and now we know that he is "truly OK!"

He is survived by his wife, Rev. Kathy Longhat of the home, Mtn. View, Oklahoma, his beloved children, Jeremy Max Longhat whom he loved with all of his heart, of the home, Mtn. View, Oklahoma; Bill "BJ" Thomas of the home, Mtn. View, OK; Lynsey Thomas & wife Sammie Jo of Boswell, OK; Nathan Thomas of the home, Mtn.
