Melvin Lee Sullivan, loving husband and father passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2021, at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Okla. City, Ok. He was born February 24, 1942 at Pickens, McCurtain County, Oklahoma to Jeff and Roxie (Eeds) Sullivan
He started school at Roughedge in Pushmataha county 1n Eastern Oklahoma. He graduated high school from Guthrie, Ok in 1960. He went on to attend college at Central State College in Edmond, Ok., and graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
Melvin is proceeded in death by his father, mother, son Michael Sullivan and brothers Calvin Sullivan, David Sullivan and sister Marvie Sullivan. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 58 years- Elalne Watkins- Sullivan of Anadarko, Ok., son Chris Sullivan of Oklahoma City, Ok., and granddaughter Nakia Sullivan of Oklahoma City, Ok; brothers James and wife Betty Sullivan of Birmingham, Alabama, Pete Sullivan of Durant, Ok, Robert and wife Natha Sullivan of Battiest, Ok., Sam Sullivan of Huntsville, Texas and his sister Mary Mason of Ponca City, Ok.
The bulk of his years were spent teaching school and coaching ln California, Arizona, Texas, and Oklahoma. He had a short bout working in the oilfleld ln Texas and Oklahoma in the 1980's. He worked for department of corrections in Hunstville, Texas, Department of corrections in Stringtown, Ok. He then retired from services at Lexington Correctional Center.
He loved his OU sports and could remember statistics most of us never knew. He loved researching and doing his family genealogy. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and spent 18 years serving in a leadership capacity. He loved readlng and studying his scriptures and discussing the gospel. Mel was a talented writer and wrote many poems and short stories, many that were published. He was working on a novel at the time of his death. Mel loved to do public speaking and was invited to speak at many graduation ceremonies.
The viewing will be held Wednesday, May 5, 2021 from 9am to 8pm at Ray and Martha's Funeral home, 1115 South Mission Road, Anadarko, Ok. Celebration of his life will be held May 6, 2021 at ll:00 am at Memory Lane cemetery ln Anadarko, Ok. A family meal will be served at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 902 E. Central in Anadarko, Ok.
