Melba Nightengale

March 3, 1938 — August 25, 2022

Melba "Jean" Nightengale of Cordell, Oklahoma passed away on August 25, 2022, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jean was born on March 3, 1938, to Harvey and Malinda (Wedel) Brown. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior when she was nine years old. Jean grew up and attended school in Bessie, Cordell and Corn Bible Academy where she met her sweetheart, Larry Nightengale. She graduated from Corn Bible Academy in 1956 and attended Tabor College for 2 years. Jean thought she would meet her future husband while at Tabor, but soon realized her high school sweetheart, Larry Don was the love of her life. They were married on April 11, 1959.

To this union two children were born, Kevin Don and Lisa Janene. Family was very important to Jean and she treasured her close relationship with them. She worked for Department of Human Services, and for the Washita County OSU extension center retiring in 2001.

She loved summer and enjoyed her garden and flowers. She always looked forward to wheat harvest and preparing five course meals and delivering them to the field. Her freezer was always full of her famous chocolate chip cookies for anyone to get at any time. She loved to can pickles, make zwiebach, peppernuts and homemade cinnamon rolls.
She read her daily devotional every evening and prayed all the time for her children, grandchildren, and great grands that they would all know The Lord as their personal savior.
Jean was very active in her church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher and Jr., S.S. Supt. for many years. She enjoyed the children and preparing them each year for the annual Christmas program. Jean also enjoyed helping with VBS and Awanas. She loved to sing in the church choir.
Jean's Children, Grandchildren, and Great-Grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved spending time with them baking and attending all their activities in school and church. She always enjoyed having them over for Sunday lunch cooking their favorite meals. Her favorite was letting each child or grandchild pick the menu for their birthday meal. She enjoyed them spending the night with her and doing plenty of activities from card games to basketball games to tea parties. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Larry Nightengale of the home.
