Mary Ruth Tsoodle

Mary Ruth Tsoodle, affectionately known as Peggy, 98, of Mountain View, Oklahoma, went to her heavenly home, surrounded by her loving family, on January 28th, 2022. She was born on March 17th, 1923 to Milton and Margaret Quoetone Toyebo in Meers, Oklahoma. She began school in Meers and went on to graduate high school from Mountain View in 1941. She was a full blood member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and at the time of her passing, she was the oldest Kiowa tribal member. She married Fred Tsoodle in 1946. For many years, they resided in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where she was employed with the Indian Health Service as an office administrator. Upon their retirement, they made their home in rural Mountain View on her father's allotment land. They were
devout members of the Rainy Mountain Kiowa Indian Baptist Church where she was the organist for many years and an active member of the various activities within the women's church organization. Peggy was a traditional Kiowa woman in her support of her husband's role in the Kiowa Gourd Clan. For many years, she enjoyed taking care of the camp at the annual Kiowa Gourd Clan ceremony, the Oklahoma Indian American Baptist Association camp, Ton-Kon-Gaht ceremony, and camping at Rainy Mountain church at Christmas.

Peggy is survived by a son, Timothy Craig and wife Myra, and two daughters, Marguerite Lee and Mabel Jeanne Cozad and husband Lewis, one daughter-in-law, Gloria Noel and two adopted sons, Hank Childs and John Redeagle. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Peggy cherished her Toyebo and many Mountain cousins but her soulmate throughout her life was Delores Toyebo Harragarra.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Bradley Toyebo and Luke Waldon Toyebo, two sisters: June Marie Toyebo and Patricia Maude Noel, one son, Milton Jonathan "Bubba", and one son-in-law, Mitchell Lee.
