Janell Slemp, 87, of Gracemont, was born January 14, 1925, to Thomas and Almeda (Dennis) Fogle in Denison, Texas. She passed from this life on Saturday, December 22, 2012, peacefully at her home.
Janell and her family moved to the Spring Creek area as a child and attended Strong and Star schools graduating from the eighth grade. She moved in the 40's to Oklahoma City and worked for the Wilson Packing Plant for a few years. Janell later moved back to the Gracemont area and married Gene Slemp in November of 1947. She was much more than a homemaker, for she was also a farmer's wife. Janell and Gene recently celebrated their 65th anniversary.
She was a member of the Spring Creek Home Demonstration Club. Janell enjoyed sewing, gardening and was an excellent cook. She was very fond of all animals; especially cats. Janell really loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, Bob Fogle and one sister, Marguerite Gudgel Fullbright.
Survivors include her husband, Gene of the home, one daughter, Gloria Jennings and her husband, Steve; one son, Mark Slemp and his wife, Kim; four grandchildren, D.J. Jennings, Mike Jennings and his wife, Lacey all of Gracemont, Ashley Schubert and her husband, Bronson of Yukon and Dakota Slemp and his wife, Kylie of Gracemont; six great grandchildren, Demi, Daphne, Sydney, Carli, Brylee and Brazyn; one brother, Bill Fogle and his wife, Charlene of Oklahoma City; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
Viewing will be from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. Monday and 9 A.M. to 9 P.M. Wednesday.
The funeral will be at 10 A.M., Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the Spring Creek Baptist Church with Ed Slemp officiating. Burial will follow in the Gracemont Cemetery under the direction of the Steverson Funeral Home.
