Mary Ann Nikkel passed away October 11, 2016 at the Corn Nursing Home. Mary Ann See was born on the Fourteenth day of February, 1939, to Herman and Ruby (Taylor) See, in Alfalfa, OK. She was their middle child, having older brothers, Herman Jr and Wallace, as well as two younger sisters, Ruby Nell and Lynda. She grew up in a caring, hard working family with strong morals.
Mary Ann attended school at Alfalfa, OK, where she loved playing basketball. Her love of the sport never faded. She was named Alfalfa Basketball Queen her senior year of high school. Mr. Jerry Nikkel was named as her King. Mary Ann and Jerry dated in high school and graduated together in 1957 and married three years later on July 16, 1960, in the Carnegie Baptist Church. They made their home on Jerry's family farm where they raised their family. They enjoyed each other, their family and watching basketball.
A son, Gregory Kent and a daughter, Lori LeAnn, were born into this family. Aside from being proud parents, they were proud to be Papa and Granny to three grandchildren, Taylor Lawrann, Logan Keith and Rylan Lee. Mary Ann and Jerry were happily married for 44 years until the death of Jerry in 2004.
After graduating high school, Mary Ann entered the work force which included mostly clerical positions. She worked at the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service office in Cordell, was a bank teller at the Farmer's Bank in Carnegie. She also worked at the Carnegie Hospital and Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton.
Mary Ann was an active member of the Alfalfa Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, lead GA's and was the church secretary. The love she had for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was strong and made evident by the life she lived.
Mary Ann loved to spend time going to and watching basketball games, sewing, cross-stitching, crocheting, quilting, doll making and a wide variety of crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jerry Lee Nikkel, one granddaughter Alasyn LeAnn Thomsen, sister-in-law Barbara See, and three brother-in-laws, Bob Nikkel, Troy Kight and Joe Bob Graham.
She was survived by one son, Greg Nikkel of Carnegie, OK. One daughter, Lori Thomsen and her husband Phil of Tuttle, OK. Three grandchildren: Taylor Lawrann Jones, Logan Keith Thomsen, and Rylan Lee Thomsen. Two brothers: Herman See, Jr. of Carnegie, OK and Wallace F. See of Mustang, OK. Two sisters: Ruby Nell Graham of Carnegie, OK and Lynda See of Mtn. Funeral services for Mary Ann will be Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the Alfalfa Baptist Church in Alfalfa, OK, under the direction of Ray and Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at the Alfalfa Cemetery.
