Mary Carolyn Forbes, 75, of Hobart, Oklahoma, passed away January 9th, 2017. She was born in Carnegie, Oklahoma on August 21st, 1941 to Raymond and Pauline (Dooley) Dudgeon. The nickname "Jeepers" came later when her father decided she could go over chairs just like an Army jeep, it stayed with her for most of her life. She was the second oldest of thirteen children. She had eight brothers and four sisters. They moved to Cordell in 1950 and she graduated from high school there in 1959. For a couple of years after graduation, she moved from one paying job to another and in 1962 she applied to join the Air Force. She spent twenty years in the military and retired in 1983. Her husband was retired military, they had purchased a forty acre farm in Arkansas and she went back to school, to college this time. She was forty-two at that time and college was a lot harder than she had thought it would be. She took two and a half years of courses in Business Agriculture before shifting her major to Creative Writing which she enjoyed and excelled at. She was going to school full-time, working 32 hours each week, driving home 22 miles each day, and doing whatever needed to be done on the farm. Her son, Samuel Cullen, joined them in 1977. He was one of the greatest joy's of her life. She and Samuel moved back to Cordell on New Year's Day 1990. She has many nieces and nephews and more great nieces and nephews at this time, with several great-greats on the way. Family reunions are loud, noisy, and tiring because she normally did a lot of cooking.
She liked to read, work with various crafts and play with her computer. She was an ardent feminist poet and had seventy-two unfinished, unpublished manuscripts. During her service career, she worked in Medical Administration and served tours in California, the Philippines, California again, South Carolina, Thailand, Illinois, and Arkansas.
