Marvin was born in Gracemont, Oklahoma on July 19th, 1938. There he grew up, went to school and worked as a delivery boy for the Anadarko Daily News to help his family until he joined the US Navy in 1956. In the Navy, he served on the USS Gurke until the end of his duty in 1960. During his time in the Navy, he traveled the world visiting many wonderful places in the Pacific including Japan, Guam, Australia and Hong Kong.
After returning home from the Navy, Marvin moved to Oklahoma City and took a job as a computer operator for the City of OKC. He worked with the very first computers that the city used to process payroll and billing information, writing programs and entering data by changing wires on a device resembling early telephone switchboards.
Marvin worked at the City for 30 years, advancing through various promotions until finally retiring in 1994 as the Data Processing Manager for Oklahoma City. When he retired in April of 1994, the Mayor of OKC officially declared that day as Marvin Blue Day in honor of his work and contributions. Marvin was very adept in his career and passed his passion for computing technology on to his son starting at the age of 3 by taking him to his office on a regular basis and showing him how to use the different systems.
After his retirement, Marvin spent the rest of his time living in Oklahoma City and spending as much quality time as possible with his family. Family was the most important thing to Marvin, he was the kindest and most loving person one could know, and held fast to his beliefs. Marvin was a member of Quail Springs Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, and was an avid supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners and OKC Thunder.
