Martha Marjorie Koomsa Perez

Martha Koomsa Perez, "Daw-Guah-Phay-Guah-Mah," 82, of Carnegie, OK passed away Saturday, August 26 th , 2023 at Carnegie Tri-County Hospital in Carnegie, OK. She was born to William Sr. and Henrietta (Satepeahoodle) Komesataddle on November 22 nd , 1940 in Carnegie, OK.

Martha attended Carnegie Public Schools and graduated from Haskell Institute in Lawrence Kansas in 1959. She went on to continue her education (post-grad) at Haskell University and then Southwestern Oklahoma University. Martha is a full blood member of the Kiowa Tribe and a direct descendant of 2 Kiowa Chiefs, Satanta Whitebear and Satank Sittingbear. Martha was married to her husband, Ramon Perez. This union was blessed with 7 children. Martha began her working career as a Community Action Program Center Director and went on to work actively in different areas of the Kiowa Tribe, most notably her 18 years working as the Kiowa Tribal Election Board Clerk.

Martha had many honors and accomplishments throughout her lifetime as she was a past member of the Kiowa Business Committee (Treasurer), Tribal Delegate of NCAI, Riverside Indian School Board President, Kiowa Housing Authority Commissioner, Caddo Kiowa Votech Indian Advisory Committee Member, OK Caucus Chairman of National Indian Education Association, Secretary of the American Indian Exposition Board of Directors (7 years), Pageant Director and Writer of American Indian
Exposition (4x), President of the Carnegie Victory Club (6 years), and an Honorary Member of SW Oklahoma Vietnam Veterans and many more.

Martha was knowledgeable and passionate about teaching, educating and advocating for Native American preservation and Kiowa Traditional teachings. She enjoyed Public Speaking on Kiowa Traditional Cultural and History, Pow wow Singing and Hand games. She was known for being one of the first lady MCs which included being the Mistress of Ceremonies for the American Indian Exposition 1996
and 2007.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Arvetta "Dee" Thomas (OK) and Carla Perez (OK), 3 Sons: Elliott 'Duke' Thomas (OK), John Perez (OK), Henry Perez (TN)
Grandchildren: Whitney Caldwell & husband Matthew, Kyle Thomas & Wife Tara, Timithy Thomas, Derek Thomas, Torri Thomas, Denton Thomas, Chozin Bert, Praze Bert, Courtney Muro & husband Manuel, Johnathyn Bronaugh, Juanita Bronaugh, Jonas Bronaugh, Juandee Bronaugh, Johnson Bronaugh, Haylee Perez, Alexander Torres and 22 great grandchildren
Sister: Wilda Ann Koomsa (Carnegie)

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters: Angeline Wetselline, Lois Koomsa Gayton, Nannie Belle Koomsa, Peggy Ann Maynahonah, brother William Koomsa Jr., 2 daughters: Nannette Bert and Marla Perez, Granddaughter Seslee Perez, Grandson Adrian Perez and 1 Great Granddaughter Ava Caldwell.
