Marshal Dwight Hawkins

Marshal Dwight Hawkins (Brother Dwight to most), 70, of Anadarko, was born December 19, 1944, to Arvel Clayton "A.C." and Letha E. (Eskew) Hawkins in Carnegie. He passed from this life on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at his home.
Soon after being called to preach, at the age of 12, he became licensed. Moving so much during his teen years convinced him that when he got grown, he would be through with all the loading and unloading and having to leave friends and make new ones.
Dwight attended schools all over the state during his education. His dad would stay in one place approximately 18 to 24 months. Because of this, his picture is in the Gracemont Seniors in 1963, but he received his diploma from Quinton High School. Dwight was a "PK" and worked hard at living up to the reputation. He and Judith Anne Slemp were married on June 7, 1963 in Gracemont with his father officiating the ceremony. To this union a son, Justin Bradley and a daughter, April Lorraine were added.
After marriage, Dwight was a farm laborer and farmed near Gracemont until a flood took his good cotton crop down Sugar Creek. This necessitated going to work at Sequoyah Carpet Mills to pay back his farm loan. In 1969, the company moved to a new plant in Davis. Dwight continued there until 1971, when he then returned to farming growing peanuts with his dad and his brother in Leon, OK. In 1974, he began to work nights at Uniroyal where he works nights and evenings for 17 years. In the year 1983, Dwight finally gave up and returned to his called purpose and in 1985, he became pastor of Achille First Baptist Church, where he was ordained, but continued to commute to Uniroyal. In 1986, he moved to Dickson First Baptist Church where he served 5 years but shortened his commute. Marsden Baptist Church called him as a full-time pastor in 1991, followed by Ratliff City from 1993 to 1999, to Thackerville from 2000 to 2002 and to back to Ratliff City from 2002 to 2006. "Retiring" in 2006 and returning to Anadarko, Dwight served about 6 months at Laverty Baptist Church, 5 months at the Indian Capital Baptist Church and almost a year at Spring Creek Baptist Church. Dwight's membership was at the First Baptist Church in Anadarko where he was active until the decline of his eyesight and health.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, A.C. and Letha Hawkins.
Survivors include his wife, Judith of the home; son, Brad Hawkins and his wife, Julie of Cushing; daughter, April Dawkins and her husband, Clint of Shawnee; four granddaughters, Jamie Rouintree and her husband, Jeremy of Cushuing, Andrea Hawkins of Stillwater, Haley Paige and Caitlyn Noell Dawkins of Shawnee; and two pseudo granddaughters (great nieces), Destiny and Lyndy Slemp.
In lieu of flowers and plants, the family has asked that donations be made to: Oklahoma Baptist General Convention's Disaster Relief Fund, 3800 N. May Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73112. For the aid of flood victims.
