Marilyn Alice Yeahquo, 61, of Anadarko, OK passed away Friday, October 18th, 2013 at her home in Anadarko. She was born May 17th, 1952 to Maurice and Mary (Toppah) Yeahquo in Lawton, OK. Marilyn was known as tH'kee-maw, meaning Bright Star Woman. She received her Kiowa name from her grandmother, Julia Tainpeah Toppah Yellowhair. She is a descendant of Guipago, the original Lonewolf and also a descendant of Red Cloud and Walks as She Thinks. She was also a descendant of Tainpeah-Kee, (Heart Eating Man) who is from the Tanedooah (Eagle Medicine) Clan. Marilyn was also a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. She was a board member of the Old Chief Lonewolf Descendants, LTD Organization. She was a traditionalist and walked the "Red Road" with dignity and grace. She lived her life to the fullest, practiced her beliefs, respected others, kept her tribal language and culture alive. Marilyn was talented and expressed her art through bead work, She was an accomplished award winning bead worker, who won numerous first place ribbons in traditional arts. She was also an activist and stood up for Native American rights by tackling stereotypes, increasing awareness and Indian mascots, treaty rights, sovereignty , protection of sacred lands, and the right to practice traditional religions and ceremonies. She participated in numerous rallies and spirit walks in support of civil rights. She enjoyed attending Kiowa celebrations and ceremonies throughout the year. Marilyn worked as a secretary from 11/23/1987 to 1/31/2013, for the Army Aviation Support Facility #2 in Tulsa, OK. She retired after twenty five years, and moved to Anadarko, OK to spend time with her family and relatives. Marilyn received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on December 07, 1984 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Langston University on May 12, 2001. She also received an Associates Degree, In Arts, from Rose State College on December 19, 1980. She also attended the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University- Tulsa to pursue her Masters Degree in Psychology.
