Marilyn Alice Mcdonald

October 23, 1948 — April 20, 2023

Marilyn was born at home in Gracemont on October 23, 1948 to Bert and Goldie Sage. She was one of six children and passed peacefully on April 20, 2023 in Oklahoma City at Integris Baptist Hospital. She grew up with five brothers and sisters learning to work in the cotton field. They were a happy family that played and worked together. School was always important. She had twelve years of perfect attendance, participated in music, plays, 4-H, and sports. After high school she attended USAO and just lacked a few credits to graduate. She and her sister, Fern, continued to play basketball and softball after college with an independent team.
She was very young when it was discovered she had a talent for singing. She and her dad traveled all over Oklahoma with him playing the guitar while she sang. They performed at box suppers, talent shows, and social events and won several awards. While in college she sang a few times with a local band. She also sang with the Willie Wired-Hand Serenaders.
She started working when she was fourteen as a waitress at the Corner Cafe in Gracemont, as soon as she saved enough money, she bought a buckskin horse named Skeeter. She rode in a lot of Indian Exposition parades and rodeo parades. On Sundays a lot of neighborhood kids would get together with their horses and ride the whole day. She and Glen loved horses so much they provided a home for a rescue horse.
Marilyn enjoyed cooking for her family and everyone always felt welcome at her home. She was the leader and fixer of problems. If you needed help you could always go to Marilyn for advice.
She loved her family dearly, especially her two daughters, Sharla and Tisha, and all her grandkids, great grandkids, and great-great grandkids. She looked forward to every Sunday when she would cook for all of them and just enjoy their company. She loved to follow her kids and grandkids to all their sports events and didn't want to miss any of them.
As a Caddo tribal member, she was proud of her Native American Heritage and raised her kids and grandkids to learn Native traditions, dance, and beliefs.
She enjoyed working and was a hard worker all her life. She retired two years ago due to health problems.
Marilyn always loved the homeplace where she grew up. She moved back to the homeplace where she and her husband Glen enjoyed raising chickens, planting a garden and having basketball court and pool for the grandkids, great grand kids, and great-great grand kids.

She was preceded in death by her: husband, Glen McDonald; parents, Bert and Goldie Sage; brothers, Alton Sage, Ronnie Sage; sister, Fern Hardy and Robert; grandparents, Taylor and Bertha Edmonds, Chapman and Ida Sage
