Marci DeShayna Cully, 37, was born on October 11, 1986, in Lawton, Oklahoma. Marci was an enrolled member of the Wichita Tribe of Oklahoma. She was also of Kiowa, Apache, Comanche, Seminole, and Muscogee Creek descent. Marci passed away on February 18, 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Marci grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. She attended Cordley Elementary School, South Junior High School and graduated from Lawrence High School. She also attended Haskell Indian Nations University and worked in Lawrence. When Marci was in high school, you could always find her volunteering at Haskell and helping her dad at Tecumseh.
Marci loved her family very much. She was especially close to her late brother Chybon. Marci was always willing to help family and friends whenever asked and was always willing to help others. Marci loved to write and was given her Kiowa name "G�tm�u" (She loves to write) by her late grandfather Burgess Tapedo.
Marci is survived by her parents Rex and Jami Tainpeah-Cully of Lawrence, Kansas, adopted brother Jamie Wilson (Tammy Hammer Wilson) of Tahlequah, OK; her aunts Freda Tapedo-Gipp (Al Gipp), Darryl Tapedo-Monteau (Maurice Monteau) both from Lawrence, KS, Sheila Tainpeah, Oklahoma City, OK and Deedra Tainpeah-Wehrenberg (Blake Wehrenberg), Choctaw, OK; her uncles Brady Tapedo, Lawrence, KS and Dean Tapedo, KS and Mike Lewis, Anchorage, AK; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. The family would also like to acknowledge her special friend Dana Schildt, family/friends who has been a part of her life - aunts CeCe Tsatoke and Sonya Nevaquaya and uncles Joe Bointy, Manny King, Nick Reyes, Lee Bearbow, Dana Bearbow, Eric Bailey, Forbes Perkins, Aaron Noisey and Jeremy Shield.
Marci was preceded in death by her grandparents, Burgess and Millicent (Maynahonah)Tapedo and James Tainpeah and Joann (Wolf) Tainpeah; uncles Jimmy Tainpeah, Dino Tainpeah, Lance Cully and Drake Cully and her baby brother Chybon Cully.
Casket bearers are Jeremy Garcia, Matt Quoetone, Sim Lonewolf, Charlie Tillie, Chris Whitewolf, DeArman Miller and Darrell Galindo.
The wake service will be held at Botone Memorial Church in Carnegie, OK on Friday, February 23rd at 6:30 PM and the funeral service will be held at Botone Memorial Church on Saturday, February 24th at 10:00 am. Interment will be at the Tanedoah Family Cemetery. A meal will be served immediately after the burial.
