Maggie Lee Walker

August 31, 1928 — July 19, 2017

Maggie Lee (Barnes) Walker, 88, of Hobart, Oklahoma passed away peacefully with family by her side on July 19th, 2017. Maggie was born on August 31st, 1928 Southwest of Roosevelt, OK on the farm near Consolidated 8 to J.M. and Vada (Wallace) Barnes.
Maggie attended school, grades 1 thru 12 at Consolidated No. 8, graduating in 1947. After graduation she worked at Boothe Drug, she met her sweetheart Wayne Emmett Walker and they married February 7, 1948 in Vernon, Texas. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1982. Maggie spent most of her life in Hobart. She worked at Hobart Steam Laundry, Moran Motor Co., Kiowa Co. Star Review for Clarence Frost where she sold advertising and won a trophy in the Okla. Press Association State Contest. She also worked at Public Service Co. of Oklahoma and Home State Bank where she retired in 1993 as an Assistant Vice President.
Maggie's class of 1947 started the Consolidated No. 8 school reunions and she was chairman for many years, she was also instrumental in helping with Con 8 Memorial Erected where the school once stood. Maggie served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Memorial Account and Secretary for AARP. She loved to help people, she would take them to church or to the doctor. Maggie also spent a lot of time at the Nursing Homes and Hospital, visiting and assisting however she was needed. She was also elected on the board of directors for the Senior Citizen Group in July, 2005. She also volunteered at the Good Samaritan Home, The Hobart Living Center and the Blood Mobile. Maggie also worked for several years at the Election Polls and Kiowa County Museum, she headed the bake sale fund raiser in 2010 where record sales were recorded. Maggie loved to cook and she was a wonderful baker, many of her friends and family enjoyed the small loaves of bread and cakes that she baked and gave as gifts. She would also take loaves of her bread and other goodies to all the store owners in Hobart, She sold every one. She won many ribbons at the Kiowa County Fairs for her baked goods. Maggie loved going to all the Hobart sporting events, She won "Fan of the Year" award in 2014-2015. Maggie was a member of the Church of Christ in Hobart, and baptized in 1946 at the Church of Christ in Roosevelt, Oklahoma. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Lynn Wayne Barnes & wife Marilyn of Duke, OK
Donal Elroy Brock & wife Cindy of Richland, WA
Charles Davis Jr. & wife Allison of Chillicothe, IL
and their 2 children Cameron and Valerie
Several nieces and nephews on the Walker side of the family.

Preceded in death by: Husband; Wayne, Parents, Brother; L.G. (Dick) Barnes & wife Mable, Sister; Juanita Frances Brock & husband Elroy, Sisters-in-law; Faye Walker & husband Leland, Katherine Martin, Brothers-in-law; Dale Drake, Gayle Drake, Raymond Clarke and Sherman Walker.
