Louise Courtney

September 12, 1933 — December 26, 2019

Louise (Meaders) Courtney, 86, passed away December 26, 2019 in Hobart, Oklahoma after a brief illness. She was born September 12, 1933 in Levelland, Texas to Euris and Henrietta (Luker) Meaders. Louise married the love of her life, Max Wilbur Courtney, on January 25, 1953 at Apache, Oklahoma. They were married just shy of 56 years when Max passed away suddenly in 2009. The same year that they were married, Louise and Max moved to the W.S. Rushton Farm in Carnegie where they farmed, raised cattle, and raised their two daughters, Maxine and Phoebe. Louise loved the farm and the importance to the family that it held. It was recognized as a Centennial Farm, something she was extremely proud of, and was willing and ready with a story about how integral the farm was to shaping the family over several generations. Louise loved her community and was so proud of the friendships that she made in Carnegie and the surrounding areas.
When Louise wasn't helping her husband with the farm, they would often be found at one of the many square dances held around the area. They participated in square dancing for 50 years, holding officer positions and participating on a state level. She particularly enjoyed telling stories of the friends that they made and even shared recipes that she had received from various dances and potlucks. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the First Methodist Church of Carnegie.
As much as Louise enjoyed talking about family history and her square-dancing memories, she treasured talking about her family even more. Louise took so much pride in being a grandmother and was constantly bragging on the achievements and successes of her grandchildren, Jason, Max, and Courtney. She kept up with each of them, cheering them on and lending advice or a listening ear when needed. Louise adored her great grandchildren, Jared and Jacob Doss; and Boston, Abigail, Madelyn, and Callan Harrison. She was always ready with a smile, an ear, and funny songs or stories that would leave the kids in stitches. She took time to listen to whatever their young hearts had to say and she was so proud to watch them grow and hear about each of their milestones and accomplishments.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her two sisters: oldest sister, Lucie Williams, and Louise's twin sister, Lucille Lucas.
Survivors include her daughters; Maxine Harrison and her husband, Teddy, of Hobart, Oklahoma and Phoebe Doss and her husband, Mike, of Fort Worth, Texas. Three grandchildren; Max Harrison and his wife, Kathy, of Hereford, Texas; Jason Doss of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Courtney Doss, of Fort Worth, Texas. Six great-grandchildren, Jared and Jacob Doss of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Boston, Abigail, Madelyn, and Callan Harrison of Hereford, Texas. As well as many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
