Linda Jo (Evans) Marler

Norman - Linda Jo (Evans) Marler passed away peacefully at home on

November 10th, 2024 at the age of 76.

Linda was born on October 14th, 1948 in Hobart, Oklahoma, the third of Charlie L. and Louise Marie Evans' four children. Linda graduated from Hobart High School in 1966. Following in her sister Diana's footsteps, she was also crowned Miss Hobart in 1968. She attended OCLA in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in 1970. She married the love of her life, Danny, on October 3rd, 1970 and they resided in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where she began her teaching career as an art teacher. After receiving her Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Oklahoma, they moved to Altus, Oklahoma where she became the guidance counselor at Altus High School in 1974. After moving to Norman, Oklahoma in 1980 she continued working as a guidance counselor at Purcell High School and loved being involved with mock trial and academic teams. She enjoyed working with all of her students and always loved bumping into her former students after retirement. After 30 years in education, she retired in 2001.

Linda was a member of University Christian Church of Norman for 38 years, where she directed Ladies' Rejoice, children's dramas, and Christmas Cantatas. She was involved with Vacation Bible School programs and traveled with the youth group to Christ In Youth camps over the years. Linda began the annual Ornament Exchange for the University Christian Church ladies and any friends. She continued this tradition for 37 years. She loved to travel and have coffee with her closest friend Glenda Ray. She was involved with the Dress-A-Girl Project, Sole Hope and Tenaciously Teal. She volunteered at the Civic Center for over 25 years, and always loved to organize the annual egg hunt at their home for her grandchildren, neighbors, and any of their friends who wanted to come.

Preceding her in death were her mother, on the same date of November 10th, two years earlier; her father, Charlie Evans; her brother, David Evans, and his wife, Lynda; her sister, Diana Evans Salter; her daughter, Blair Nicole; and her grandson, Silas Elijah Morse.

Surviving her are her husband Colonel (R) Danny Marler of Norman; daughter Jessica Gates and her husband, David, of Norman; daughter Paige Morse and husband, Daniel, of Stillwater; grandchildren Courtney and her husband, Logan, of Duke, Carley Gates of Norman, and Luke Gates of Norman; great grandchild Brooks Logan Sawyer, of Duke; brother Sam Evans and wife, Jamie, of Norman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
