Lena Jean Kaulaity

Lena Jean (Bohay) Kaulaity, 82 of Carnegie, OK went to her heavenly rest, Sunday February 3rd, 2013 in Anadarko, OK. Lena was born in Carnegie to Pearl Botone Woodard and Steve Bohay on March 29th, 1930. Her paternal grandparents were Pautokoy Hoodletauquodle and maternal grandparents, Dick Botone and Hazel Whitebuffalo Botone and great great granddaughter of Santanta. Lena grew up in Carnegie and attended Riverside Indian School. She was united in marriage to William "Bill" Kaulaity and he preceded her in death in 1991. Lena made her home in Chicago, after being a part of the BIA relocation program. She worked at St. Augustine Center with Father Peter Powell, then later in Oklahoma City, OK. After returning to Carnegie, she received her LPN at Kiowa Caddo Technology Center. She worked for the Carnegie Hospital, and retired after many years of service. Lena's greatest joy was singing behind the drum and attending Kiowa gatherings with her late husband, in Oklahoma and other states as well. After the Black Leggings ceremonial was received in 1958, she was one of the main female singers behind the drum. She also sang at the Kiowa Gourd Clan celebration every July. Her greatest love was being with her family, singing, playing bingo and going to AOA.

sisters, Allene Woodard, Anadarko, OK
Loretta Scatlin, Edmond, OK
numerous nieces, nephews, family and staff at Silvercrest Nursing Home

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, her siblings, Phil R. Bohay, George Botone, Kenneth Bohay, Marquis Woodard, Allen "Minnow" Woodard, her name sake, Lena Jean Bohay, uncle, Raymond White Buffalo Sr., and beloved Aunt, Georgia Dupoint.

Wake Service: 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 06, 2013
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Thursday February 07, 2013
Both services will be held at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church, Carnegie
Burial will follow at Cedar Creek Cemetery
under the direction of Ray & Martha's Funeral Home, Carnegie
