Lavita Mae Ward

Lavita Mae Ward went to be with her Lord on August 11, 2012. She was born May 31, 1927 at Sentinel, OK to James Howard and Ella Mae (Cluck) Stevens. Lavita married Don G. Ward in Cordell, OK on January 12, 1947 and they were married 46 1/2 years until his death April 29, 1992. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Verlon Stevens and Don Stevens.

Lavita graduated in 1946 from Port High School as Valedictorian of her class and from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Weatherford, in 1951 with a Bachelors' Degree in Secondary Education, and a double major in English and Business. In 1969, she received her masters degree in education from SWOSU.
Lavita taught a total of 31 years in Gruver and Samnorwood, TX and Eakly and Hobart, OK Public Schools.

Lavita was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church. She and her late husband, Don represented Kiowa County as Farm Bureau Family of the Year in 1986. Lavita sang in the Methodist Church choir for 31 years and served as Sunday School Superintendent 20 plus years. She loved reading, gardening and music.

She is survived by three children:

Family will greet friends at Ray and Martha's Funeral Home
6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.

Funeral Services: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2012
First United Methodist Church, Hobart, OK
Burial to follow in the Sentinel Cemetery, Sentinel, OK under the direction of Ray and
Martha's Funeral Home, Hobart, OK.
